Friend or Rival?/A Big Birthday

At Lunch the next day at school, Lucky sat next to Moonbeam and started on the carrot his mom packed for him. Moonbeam was munching on an apple,Lucky stared at Moonbeam's sapphire necklace and was curious.

"I like your necklace. It's very pretty." He said as he smiled softly at her.

She looked down at her necklace and touched it with her hoof,"Thank you. That's very nice of you to say."

Lucky noticed a sad look on her face and asked her,"What?"

"It's just,—" Moonbeam started,"This necklace is the last thing of my mother's."

"You mean?—" Lucky said,sadness in his voice.

Moonbeam knew what he was talking about,"Yes. My father too. One night, there was a fire and I was the only one who got out with the necklace. I watched as my home burned into flames." Tears streaming down her face as she told her story.

Lucky listened to her silently and finally said," You must have been so scared."

Moonbeam looked at him," I was. After a while, Zecora took me in and I've been with her since."

Shock Wave showed her concern,"You poor pony. I'm sorry that happened to you, but we're here for you now."

Puffball also chimed in,"Yes, I agree,that was a terrible ordeal for you to deal with." He said as he held Moonbeam's hoof.

Suddenly,Lucky felt a new feeling come through his chest and said in an irritated tone," You know what? It's almost time to go home for the day,so don't you think we should go get our bags?"

Lucky held the door open for Moonbeam and she went in. Lucky then looked over and saw Puffball standing next to the lunch table with an angry look in his eyes. Lucky went inside the school and shut the door without even saying anything to Puffball.
Moonbeam went and grabbed her lavender bag and Lucky offered to help put it on.

"Thanks Lucky." Moonbeam said as she blushed.

Before Lucky could say anything, Puffball stepped in," I can wait with you until Zecora comes to get you."

Moonbeam said,"Why don't we all wait for our parents together?"

The White unicorn walked outside and the second she was gone, the two colts started fighting.

"What do think you're doing?!" Puffball screamed at Lucky.

"Trying to be nice! That's what you do when you like a girl!" Lucky said between gritted teeth.

Puffball got mad,"You like Moonbeam too?! She's my girl!"

Lucky lost his patience and said with anger,"She's not a trophy and you shouldn't treat her like one!"

Then Puffball said something that really hurt Lucky,"As far as I'm concerned, it seems that you and I are no longer friends, but rivals. By the way, Happy Birthday,Young Prince."

Lucky gasped in horror but seeing that Puffball had made his choice,"So be it." He said with sadness in his voice.

Puffball left the schoolhouse, leaving Lucky all alone inside and when he was alone, a tear streamed down his face and he quietly said to himself," I didn't want it to be this way. I forgot my birthday was coming up and I wanted to invite Moonbeam."

Lucky ran outside to find Moonbeam and saw her sitting under a tree waiting for Zecora. Lucky ran over and sat next to her.

"Moonbeam, I wanted to ask you if you would like to come to my birthday party?" Lucky asked her.

"You want me to be there? Yes I would love to come." She said with happiness.

Lucky was really happy and flew home to get ready for his birthday. Twilight noticed that her son was dancing in the air, humming, and daydreaming. Twilight went to her son's room and saw him combing his hair carefully and put on cologne.

"It looks like my son is smitten." Twilight said to herself quietly.

Twilight left quietly and giggled gently as she walked away.

Meanwhile, Moonbeam went home with Zecora, acting the same way. Moonbeam was humming and daydreaming too. Zecora noticed too, that her daughter was acting strangely and saw her brushing her hair, putting on makeup and perfume.

When Moonbeam was finished, she called to her mother,"Mom I'm going to Lucky's birthday party, ok?"

Zecora said to her daughter," Alright, but be back before the sun loses its light."

At the party, Moonbeam and Lucky danced, had punch, and of course, they had cake. Puffball and Shock Wave were at the party too and Puffball kept a close eye on them. Moonbeam and Lucky walked over her to Lucky's Parents.

"Mom. Dad, this is Moonbeam." Lucky said as he looked at her with a twinkle in his eye.

"Oh what a pretty little pony." Twilight said softly.

Flash whispered in his son's ear,"Now that you've become thirteen, you gonna take her on a date?"

A little embarrassed, he cried out,"Dad!" Making Flash laugh.

Moonbeam suddenly realized,"Lucky you haven't opened your presents yet."

Lucky opened a present from his mom's present,"Wow! A prince cape! I have been wanting one of these, thanks mom!"

Shock Wave chimed in,"Here Lucky, this one's from me." She said as she gave him a red present with a blue ribbon.

Lucky opened his present and became all starry eyed,"Wow! A dragon kite! I love it, thanks!" Lucky gave Shock Wave a big hug.

Moonbeam said to Lucky," I have a present for you too." She gave him a quick kiss on the cheek.

Lucky turned tomato red in his face and fainted on the floor with a goofy smile on his face.

"Is he gonna be alright?" Moonbeam asked Twilight in concern.

"Yeah, he'll be fine. Lucky's just had a little too much excitement today." Twilight said. "Well, do you need a ride home, Moonbeam? It's getting dark."

"I would appreciate that, thank you." She turned to Lucky,"I'll see you later,Lucky."

"Bye Moonbeam." He said slowly waving his hoof.

Lucky was so ecstatic that he could hardly sleep that night and he went to bed dreaming.
