Moonbeam was touring the castle with Lucky and was amazed with all the sights.
"This is the last place I want to show you, The Stained Glass Hall. It records special events that happened in the past." Lucky explained to her.
Moonbeam stopped under one stained glass window and looked at it carefully." Lucky, what is this one?"
"That's when my mother got her wings. My mom was just a regular unicorn back then." Lucky told her.
"Your mom looks so young." She said as she turned her head back to the window. "Thanks for the tour I really enjoyed it, but I have to go meet with Fox. Fox says I need to have a dress for the gala. Bye."
"Okay, oh, wait!" He said," You and your friends won't be able to come to the gala without these." He said as he gave her the tickets.
Moonbeam put the tickets in her bag and thanked him again before she left, she turned around and asked Lucky,"Promise to save the first dance for me?"
Lucky smiled and said,"Of course I will."
Lucky then rushed up and began to get ready for the gala tonight.
Moonbeam went to Rarity's shop, where Fox was anxiously awaiting her arrival.
Fox spoke," Where have you been?!"
"I've been—" Moonbeam started, but Fox cut her off.
"At! I don't want to hear it! In! In! In!" Fox said as she pushed Moonbeam into the boutique.
Moonbeam tried on many different dresses, but had a hard time finding the perfect dress for the gala. Rarity looked at Moonbeam's sapphire necklace.
"Darling," Rarity replied," I have just the dress to match that lovely necklace you are wearing."
Rarity pulled out a beautiful blue dress that sparkled in the sunlight and Moonbeam smiled.
"It's perfect!" Moonbeam said with excitement.
Moonbeam went home with the dress and found Zecora at her cauldron. Seeing her daughter return home, Zecora walked to her.
"From where do you come from with that dress? Don't you know that you are in such a mess?" Zecora said.
"I got a dress for the gala. But what mess are you talking about, Mother?" Moonbeam asked her.
"I saw something amiss in the water, so come here and I will show you,My daughter." Zecora replied.
Moonbeam came close and gazed into the cauldron and saw two ponies swirling around. One was white and the other was black.
Zecora explained,"As you can see, one pony has a soul full of darkness and the other has one that is full of light. One has the heart of day, but the other has the heart of night."
"What does it all mean,Mother?" Moonbeam asked her mom.
"For these two to be friends once more, one must let go of what he adores. One other pony must take care or else the dark pony will fall more into despair." Zecora said.
"I don't understand, Mother," Moonbeam told her," Who are the two ponies and why are these two ponies fighting?"
"That is something you must decipher, but you have nothing to fear, for you are much brighter." Zecora explained. "Now is your big chance before the dance."
Realizing that she was talking about the gala, Moonbeam rushed to get ready. Moonbeam put on the dress and asked Zecora to help with her hair. When she was ready, it was time for the gala and Zecora was waving goodbye to her daughter who was leaving for the gala. When she was gone out of sight, Zecora went back inside her house and went back to her cauldron.
"I hope my daughter is not wrong." Zecora said to herself." Or this hate will become too strong."
Meanwhile, Moonbeam caught up with Fox and Mulberry, who were both waiting for her and they all got into the grape looking carriage and were off to the gala.Mulberry was wearing a nice green dress with a red satin sash and Fox had a white dress with gold trimmings and she was wearing her mother's beautiful ruby necklace.
Mulberry looked at Moonbeam in the carriage,"You look great,Moon."
"Thanks." Moonbeam replied." You look great, too."
"Thanks. So, are you girls excited for the gala?" Mulberry asked her friends.
"Oh, you know I am excited." Fox said.
"I am too, I just really want to see Lucky and ask him to dance with me." Moonbeam said with slight shyness.
The two other girls looked at each other and smiled.
"Oh, you like him, don't you?" Fox asked her.
"Maybe a little. He's really nice." Moonbeam said.
"Mulberry, who are you going to dance with?" Fox asked.
Mulberry flatly said," I'm going to ask Puffball."
"Puffball?!" The girls yelled.
"Why him?" Fox asked.
"Because," Mulberry explained," he looked really upset last time we saw him and I thought I would try to maybe cheer him up."
"I think that's very nice of you." Moonbeam said and she turned to Fox. "So, Fox are dancing with anyone?"
"Yes, but you will find out who it is when we get there." Fox explained.
Before the three of them knew it, they were at the door of the gala and they all took a breath and went inside. Fox went over to a light brown earth pony with a black mane and tail in a blue tuxedo and walked him over to Moonbeam and Mulberry.
Fox told them,"Girls, I want you to meet Apple Walnut, my boyfriend."
Moonbeam stepped up first,"Hi there. I'm Moonbeam."
"And I am Mulberry Holly." Mulberry added.
Apple Walnut spoke in a calm voice," I am pleased to meet you and I heard that you,Moonbeam, are a guest of Prince Lucky Star."
"Yes I am. Have you seen Lucky by any chance?" Moonbeam asked him.
Apple Walnut looked to the right and said,"He's over there, standing next to his mother."
"Thanks." Moonbeam said and walked away to go talk to Lucky.
Lucky was wearing a nice white tuxedo greeting guests with his mother and saw Moonbeam coming towards him, excused himself and began walking towards her, but just before they could reach each other, Puffball cut through out of nowhere. Puffball began talking to Moonbeam.
Puffball slicked his hair back and smiled at Moonbeam," You look stunning tonight,Moonbeam."
A little uncomfortable, Moonbeam said,"Thank you Puffball, but I promised Lucky that I would dance with him first. Maybe I will dance with you some other time." She said as she walked away.
Puffball gritted his teeth and gave Lucky a jealous look as he hugged Moonbeam and showed her to the dance floor. Lucky and Moonbeam forgot everyone else who was there and just danced and danced, that it seemed like they would dance forever.
When the song was over, Lucky and Moonbeam went to take a little break from dancing, but they didn't sit long when Puffball came over and splashed a pie all over Lucky's white tuxedo."Oh excuse me,Lucky." Puffball said unconvincingly." I didn't even see you there. Why don't you go get cleaned up and I'll stay here to keep Moonbeam company."
Lucky gave an angry and suspicious look at Puffball, but went to go wash his tuxedo. Puffball turned to Moonbeam when Lucky was gone.
"Now, where we're-" he started but saw Moonbeam leaving. "Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Hey!" Puffball called as he ran between her and the door,"Where you going? Is the castle on fire?" He said trying to sound funny.
Moonbeam calmly told him," I know you dropped that pie on Lucky's tuxedo on purpose. I think it was best if I go home." Moonbeam walked past him and went out the door.
