THIRD YEAR | 1993
THALIA FELT THE DREAD FILL her body from head to toe. She didn't want to have her fear on display in front of all her classmates. She didn't want them to know anything about her, especially something that could be used against her.
"Come on, Thalia, up you come," Professor Lupin encouraged once again. Thalia eyed him for a moment before cautiously stepping forward, her heart rate spiking in her chest. She breathed in slowly, hoping to calm herself down as she watched the Boggart begin to shift from its deflated balloon form.
She watched as the Boggart shut out all the light, leaving the room in darkness except for a small lamp that wasn't there before. Thalia looked around confused as she wasn't afraid of the dark. As she looked around, she saw a figure curled on the floor. It was back facing her.
As Thalia went to step forward to inspect the scene in front of her, a loud screaming noise came from the form that was now writhing on the floor. Thalia, along with everyone else in the room, immediately put their hands to their ears, trying to muffle out the piercing scream.
Thalia immediately recognized the screams, the pain, and the immense agony that came from them. She recognized as her own. Thalia remembered the night where she had endured the 'cruciatus curse' for hours on end with no one to help her, no one to hear her pleas and cries for help, she had never felt more alone and more afraid than that night.
Thalia quickly pulled out her wand, shouting out,'Riddikulus!' Making the screaming stop and the light to return as the Boggart transformed into a music player the upbeat tune a stark contrast to the tortured screams that filled the room seconds earlier.
Thalia stared at the floor, unsure of what to do with herself as she listened to her classmates whisper to themselves, trying to figure out what the hell they all had just witnessed. "What in the bloody hell was that?" Ronald asked, rubbing his ears, making Thalia freeze as she continued to stare at the floor, refusing to meet the eyes of any of her classmates.
"Shut up, Ron." Hermione scolded her friend, smacking him on the shoulder. "Well, he does have a point, whatever that was almost blew out meh ear drums," Seamus agreed with the red head boy.
"May I be excused, Professor?" Thalia asked quietly, refusing to look up from her shoes. "Yes, of course." He agreed, allowing Thalia to quickly make her way out of the classroom. "Erm, well done, everyone. I think that is enough excitement for today. " Professor Lupin dismissed the rest of the classroom.
Mattheo watched with furrowed brows as Thalia was almost running out of the class. He wanted to figure the girl out. He didn't know why, but he was going to figure that out too.
...
Thalia had made her way to the girls bathroom, she had locked herself in one of the stalls covering her mouth with her shaking hand as she sobbed. She never usually cried at the cause of Stephen Sallows, but something about seeing her own body crumpled on the floor as she screamed hit her deeper than she thought it could.
