Spencer took a few deep breaths when he stepped off of the plane. not only was it way colder than he was dressed for, but it was a method to keep the tears from slipping down his cheeks as he grabbed his luggage from the baggage claim and followed the line of his new class mates.

in the mess hall, he was surrounded by other shy loners, so no one talked.

until she came.

"She" was one of the most strikingly beautiful girls Spencer had ever seen. she had a short, lithe form and wore a cropped black leather jacket and a tee shirt advertising one of Spencer's favorite horror films. Along with this, she wore bleached skinny jeans, combat boots, and she sported several dozen piercings, with short, snowy white hair. she was also very blunt; "is that a legit Billy Joe Cobra guitar pick?!"

"H-huh?" Spencer asked, shaking out of his daze, "o-oh yeah. he was a... A distant relative of mine."

"SHUT UP!!! I totally IDOLIZE the Cobra!!!"

"Really?" Spencer asked with a chuckle.

"Yeah! He was THE BEST!!! He totally inspired me to learn to play!" She cried out enthusiastically, playing a left handed air-guitar.

Spencer laughed, "wish I could say the same; he tried to teach me a few times, but I sucked."

"oh, no way." The girl laughed, seeming confident that he was pulling her leg.

"No really!" Spencer grinned.

the girl then led him out of the mess hall and to the girls building. she then pulled a crimson red guitar out of its case. "It's a spare; come on. if you REALLY can't play, then I'LL teach you." Spencer just shrugged, and gave it his best shot. the poor girl sitting across from his winced so hard, she fell off of her bed. "Okay... wow.... you really do suck."

"Told you so." Spencer told her smugly and she just laughed. then she started doing things; she moved around behind him and fiddled with his fingers; and she actually managed to teach him a few chords.

"Wow..." Spencer mumbled, playing them again, "the legend himself couldn't do this; how'd you?"

She smiled, "your fingers are too short for the chords you were trying, so you can't get those, which I'm guessing are the ones he tried teaching you?" When Spencer nodded, her smile grew, "yeah: just wait till your fingers are longer."

"I will..." Spencer chuckled, playing a short melody with the few chords that he knew. after that, the conversation descended into horror movies, special effects, bad jokes and ranting about adults.

Nearly 3 hours later the girl shouted, "ROMA!" (Gonna pretend it's pronounced rom-ah) as Spencer walked towards the exit.

for a moment, this confused the boy, then he shouted back "Spencer!" When he realized that they hadn't told each other their names.

"Romy!" She laughed. (Gonna pretend it's pronounced rom-ie)

"Spence!" He called back with a wider grin.

Spencer then went back to his own building, wondering if this would really be as horrible as he had imagined when stepping off the plane.
