Sat, Nov 7th.
Kai and Duke found themselves locked in yet another heated argument, their voices rising with frustration and hurt. The tension in the room was suffocating, the air thick with unspoken emotions.
But everything came to a boiling point when Kai admitted he was still in contact with Josh.
Duke's face twisted in disbelief, his voice sharp as a blade. "Really? After what happened last night, you still talking to this nigga? What the fuck, Kai!?" His heart pounded, his chest tightening as he tried to process what he just heard.
Kai clenched his jaw, his hands curling into fists at his sides. "Duke, it ain't even like that—"
"Then what the fuck is it like, Kai? Huh?" Duke cut him off, stepping closer."' Cus from where i'm standing, it sound like you still got something going on with this nigga behind my back!"
Kai scoffed, shaking his head in frustration. "Man, you trippin'. He kept blowing up my phone after I told him i couldn't fuck with him no more. You assuming I'm still tryna talk to him when i'm not."
Duke let out a bitter chuckle. "Nah see, that's where you got me fucked up. You shouldn't be talking to him at all." His voice dropped. "That's that weird shit bruh. Fucking weirdo."
Kai's breath hitched but his pride wouldn't let him be. "I ain't weird—"
"Yes, you is!" Duke snapped. "If you still gon' be talking to that nigga, then why the fuck am i even here?"
Silence.
The weight of Duke's words crashed down on Kai like a wave, drowning him in guilt.
Kai inhaled sharply, his voice softer now, almost pleading. "Duke, i'm sorry... I felt bad for what happened and i—"
"I don't wanna hear that shit." Duke exhaled sharply, looking away for a moment before locking eyes with Kai again. "You always on my ass about listening to you, making sure i take your feelings into account but look at chu. You can't even follow your own words."
Kai's chest tightened, fear clawing its way into his heart. "Duke..."
"Nah, hell nah." Duke shook his head, waving Kai off. "You'd rather keep talking to a nigga that literally tried to sneak me.. a nigga that's been on bullshit with me since we were kids than stand beside the one person who's always been here for you. That shit is crazy, Kai."
Kai opened his mouth to speak, but nothing came out. The weight of it all sat heavy in his chest.
But before he could gather his thoughts, Duke had already turned away. His footsteps heavy as he made his way to the door.
