Melissa Davis laid on her bed pillow held firmly over her face eyes shut poring herself over every detail she could remember from her dream. She had just woken up and that dream seemed so realistic she felt like she was actually there like she could reach out and touch things feeling them as solid as she could while awake
She had been walking down a heavily wooded path on her way to an unknown destination but she could sense it was important she arrived. She turned a corner and there in from of her was a mysterious woman who radiated warmth but her face was obscured by a large hooded cape.
"Melissa you have grown into a fine beautiful fae" Other than her dad no one in her life had referred to her as fae. She was simply a half-fae and her mother had always insisted she was human because she was being raised human and civilized
"How do you know my name"
"Oh child that is unimportant I have much more important things to talk to you about while we have the time" While Melissa could not see her face she could tell the woman was smiling.
"I understand you have never been to visit your father"
"No ma'am I haven't my mom would never allow it she didn't trust my dad to keep me safe in a world filled with monsters" The strange woman was glad to see that even with being raised in the human world Melissa had developed basic manners
"You need to go visit him trust me when I tell you it's important" She was unsure fully of the reason why but she knew deep down she could trust this woman whoever she was
Finally mustering the energy to go downstairs and face her mother she slid into her favorite seat at the kitchen island laptop in hand. her mother was buzzing around the kitchen making sure she had everything she needed before she headed to work
"Morning Mom"
"Good morning Missy did you hear back from any job opportunities" always straight to the point her mother was typically a cut-and-dry kind of woman so the question was expected
"I still haven't heard back from anyone yet but I plan on putting out some more applications today"
"your father called this morning he's coming to visit while I'm at work I still expect you to get some job applications in today. you know if you can't find a job you can always apply to try the fast food place down the road they are always looking for more people"
"I haven't seen dad since graduation it will be nice to see him again" Missy chose not to say anything about applying to the fast food place it was a dig at her because her mother didn't think she could find a decent job with her college degree
"well I'll be back after work please try to do something productive with your day" With that her mother picked up her purse and left the house to go to work
procrastinating putting in more job applications Missy mostly just sat perched on her chair ignoring her open laptop and scrolling through social media on her phone till she heard a knock on the door. jumping from her seat and rushing towards the door where she knew her dad would be waiting for her
"Dad!" as soon as the door was open she launched herself at her father hugging him tightly. he hugged her back smiling.
"hello little one" she finally let go of him. turning her attention to the ever-present guards that followed her father everywhere she waved at them enthusiastically.
"hi, Storm! Hi Ash!" they nodded their heads at her in unison. they followed her into the house. The guards hardly ever talked but they were always nice to her.
Her father, noticing her laptop and job applications scattered about, asked, "Still working on those job applications, I see."
Missy sighed and nodded. "Yeah, it's just... so overwhelming."
"well I have been thinking" he paced around a bit, missy had never seen her father be any sort of anxious so whatever had him so nervous was making her anxiety rise.
"I was wondering if maybe you would want to come spend the summer with me at my house"
Missy's eyes lit up with excitement "That would be amazing Dad I've wanted to go visit you in the fairy realm since I was little"
her father's face brightened as he saw her enthusiasm
"I guess it's settled then, we will just have to convince your mother now"
"that's easier said than done" Missy replied rolling her eyes and picturing her mother throwing one of her massive fits when forced to remember Missy is indeed half-fae
"you are an adult now" he reassued her "You are allowed to make your own decisions"
"I know, I'll try to talk to her. maybe if I explain why this is so important to me she will understand." she paused and looked at her feet avoiding eye contact "I just don't want her to be mad at me"
"I'm sure your mother will come around once she sees how much this means to you." he reached out gently putting a hand on her shoulder "I might be biased but I think you will love it there as much as I do"
"you are the best dad"
he smiled warmly at her "I wouldn't say the best im just the best for you"
"When will you be here to pick me up"
"well if your mom has no protests about it I'll be back in 3 days. you won't have to pack much; I'll have the tailor make you some court-appropriate clothes" he replied
Missy considered what he had said for a moment then grinned "I'll still bring a few pairs of jeans I simply will not survive if I can only wear dresses"
"skirts and dresses are what the women typically wear but they are not at all required." he chuckled a bit "The only thing it will do is maybe make you stand out a bit"
"I'm half human I'm sure I'll stand out already so I won't mind" She paused for a moment "Will I have guards of my own? You always seem to have Storm and Ash with you" She nodded towards the men who hung near the front door
"Here in the human world I always have them with me but, back home they don't follow me around nearly as much. they will likley become your guards while you stay with me"
"hear that guys you will get to hang out with me all the time"
"Now, Missy the fae realm is a world where magic is woven into everyday existence nature and magic coexist harmoniously creating a place that's breathtaking and filled with wonders that simply can not be explained with words alone" his face was serious but dreamy
"you will see magical creatures and experience the full beauty of the fae court and with a little hope learn more about fae culture and etiquette" his words painted a beautiful picture for her who had been dreaming about the fae court and what it might be like since she was a child.
they spent most of the afternoon together till it was time she had to shoo him out of the house so she could do her chores before her mother got home. Galen hated that his visits with his daughter were always so short but cherished the time he did get to have with her.
