Will you marry me?

06 | Rejection

Upon reaching their house, Vasanthi and her younger children spoke with Vasan regarding the alliance.

Amrita : " Anna I like manni very much. In fact we all like her. Why don't you confirm it their itself?"

Vasan : "Ammu, Don't rush. I don't think it is good to say no right in front of them. Hence I said will inform them later"

Vasanthi: "Why do you want to say no? From their faces, I understood that they too are ok with this. Atleast I am  pretty sure keerthi is ok with the marriage. She herself conveyed it to her mom"

Vasan: "pcch... I don't want ma. I don't want to marry now."

"Anna, tell the truth?  are you secretly seeing some one? haan... haan.. tell me...I will talk to mom." said Vijay in a low voice to Vasan teasing him.

Vasan gave a glare at him. Seeing the brothers talk, Vasanthi too had the same question as Vijay and asked her. 

Vasanthi: "Dei.. are you in love with someone? is that the reason you are postponing? If yes tell that now itself. At least we will proceed with that"

"wow anna, see easily you have got green signal, just accept and let everyone know about your secret angel." Vijay teased.  "Ammaaaaa..." Vijay shouted clenching his stomach due to the hard punch from Vasan.

Vasan: "Maa I am not in love with anyone. As I said earlier, I am not interested in marriage now. I have plans of starting business - a start up software company and I am working towards it.

For the next few months I need to concentrate on my business and do lot of hard work for it.

I cannot spend my time on starting a new family for me. I initially agreed for registering because of your constant pestering. 

We have seen so many alliances and none of them worked out. Most of them rejected for our family situation and status.

Even this alliance too seemed to be far away from our status. Chances are there for them to reject"

Amrita: "But what if Keerthi manni and her family agrees for it. "

Vasan: "eiii..why do you call her as manni? I never agreed to marry her. In fact not any girl for now. Anyway they themselves will say some or the other reason and reject us."

Vasanthi: "What if they say ok? What reason do we have to reject that girl. We can't give some blame excuses"

Vasan: " maa , say something or just say the truth that I am denying marriage and need time. I am not ready for marriage now. Period."

Vasan sauntered towards his room leaving his mother and siblings baffled and irritated at his decision.

Next day, Vasanthi was hesitant in letting them know about the rejection. Hence remained silent which would always mean they are not ok with proceeding further. 

Keerthi on the other hand was waiting impatiently for the past 2 days for their answer.

Chandran and Ambika warned her for pestering them to make a call.  She even tried to sneak in to Vasanthi number and dial or atleast do a message asking their decision. 

But Chandran caught her red handed and warned on her silly , desperate acts.

Chandran: Keerthi I already told you if they are not calling us, we are not going to call them.  It means they are not okay with proceeding so try to concentrate on something else and leave it.

Keerthi: But paa why do you want to come to a conclusion without making a call to them. Just ask them what they have decided.

Due to constant pressure from Keerthi, Ambika spoke with Vasanthi . With her talks, they understood clearly that  that they are not proceeding further.

She has put the phone on speaker so as to Keerthi to hear. After the call was cut, Ambika turned to Keerthi, who looked dejected hearing the rejection.

Ambika : We have already told you this is what will happen. Now forget about all those things and look after other work. 

Keerthi: Maa... Please let me talk to them once and try to convince. They did not outright say they are not ok with me la.

Chandran: Keerthi,this is what people would say to reject someone. Remember we too told this kind of silly reason for one of the alliances.

Listen, we have given  enough explanation about all this, so don't ask questions again and again. For your sake, we made a call and they did not agree. So we are stopping with this.

Keerthi felt sad and worried. She cried in her room not able to handle the rejection.It was really hard for her to accept his rejection.It is not easy for her to forget him but she has to.  

On the other hand, that evening, Vasanthi caught hold of Vasan and informed him about the call from Chandran.

"Dei. at once why can't you change your mind about marriage? Today Keerthi's mother called us asking about what we have decided" Vasanthi started the conversation while serving the dosa to him, who sat for dinner.

" Maa... I already told you about my decision, you could say the same thing to them" spoke Vasan while eating the morsel of dosa piece that was dipped in the Tomato chutney.

 "I just said you need some more time to think and will let them soon" Vasanthi added.

"pccch.. maa... why did you say like that? did I not tell you to clearly. Tell them we are not proceeding further? Don't give them false hopes ma."Vasan gave  a not interested look at mom.

" whatever you say, I am actually ok with that proposal. Take your time and let me know. If you want to say no you yourself call Keerthi and say it"

Vasanthi ended her conversation and serving him the dinner. She locked herself inside her room showing a hint of anger at him.

Vasan knew this kind of behaviour from his mom is to blackmail him and make him accept to her wishes. Just like how she did for registering his details in matrimony. But now he is not ready to fall for the same trap.

Finishing his dinner, he went to the room , where his mother is. Seeing the door closed, he knocked the door few times.

But Vasanthi did not open. Feeling frustrated with the act of his mother, Vasan shouted for her to hear. " how much ever you say , my decision is final. And don't try to do blackmail me with some or the other reasons, I am not going to bend for any of those"
