"We should just ditch him and go already," The annoyed voice of your friend, Satome, says in a huff, the soles of her chunky black Oxfords rapidly tapping against the ground impatiently. You let out an amused sigh at her irritation, glancing at the time on your phone—7:09 AM—before your gaze flits over to her.

Satome was your best (girl) friend of nearly twelve years. Despite her coarse attitude, she was a kind and sweet person at heart, a true tsundere if there ever was one. She had long, coal-black hair styled into a high ponytail tied up with a red ribbon. Her almond-shaped eyes were a striking gray color, a mole on her jawline. She wore the girl's school uniform well: a charcoal-gray skirt, a navy blue blazer, a gray sweater vest, and a white button-up top with a red bow to finish the ensemble. On her wrist was a beaded friendship bracelet you had made for her thirteenth birthday, something she wore every day faithfully, even as a senior in high school.

"You said that yesterday, Tome-chan," You reminded her teasingly. The black-haired girl opens her mouth to protest, cheeks flushed indignantly, before you continue, "Let's just give him a few more minutes, 'kay? We'll still be on time, I promise."

"I swear, one of these days, we're actually gonna leave him." She mutters under her breath, crossing her arms over her chest and rumpling her uniform in the process. You nod, only half-listening, watching as a small black cat crosses the street a ways from you. You briefly humor the idea of chasing after the cat to pet it but stay put.

Without warning, the front door you'd been patiently waiting in front of is thrown open. Your other friend, Masato, barrels out of it like a bullet, tripping over the steps of his porch and doing an odd sort of chicken dance as he attempts to prevent himself from falling. Somehow, it works, and he finally rights himself with a grin. You roll your eyes, a fond smile playing on your lips as you do a sarcastic slow clap at the scene, taking in the sight of the boy.

Masato was your closest (guy) friend, a title he was incredibly proud of. He'd always been someone you could tell anything to, someone who would be there for you no matter what. He had shaggy brown hair and tan skin littered with freckles with dimples on his cheeks. His eyes were a vibrant green hue, often sparkling with mischief. He wore the men's uniform: a pair of gray formal pants, a blue sweater vest, and a white dress shirt complete with a red tie. His clothes were slightly disheveled, telling you he probably just rolled out of bed.

"Thank you, thank you. I'll be here all week." The brown-haired teen says cheekily. Satome rolls her eyes with a scoff, already beginning to walk away while dragging you by the hand along with her. Masato scrambles to keep up, falling into line next to you. "What, no 'good morning'?" He pouts, green eyes making that familiar puppy-dog look.

"Good morning, Masato-kun," You say with a small smile. Satome does the same, albeit begrudgingly. Masato grins, seemingly appeased, as he follows after the two of you.

"Ne, get this," Masato begins, looking around secretively as he adjusts the strap of his school bag over his shoulder, "There's gonna be a new kid starting today." You quirk an eyebrow, intrigued.

"Really? Do you know which class they'll be in?" Satome questions with a curious lilt to her voice. The tanned-skinned boy shakes his head in response, shrugging.

"No clue. I don't even know if they're a boy or a girl." He says, bringing his arms up to rest behind his head casually. You hum at his response, contemplating his words.

Masato and Satome have been your closest friends since the days you played in a sandbox; you were nearly inseparable. If one of you was out doing something, chances were the other two were close behind. It was a system you were all pretty happy with, although handling the two alone could be a lot sometimes. Maybe you could befriend this new student so that they can give you a hand.
