You heave the heavy double doors of the gymnasium open, (e/c) eyes taking in the sight of the room. The gym was large, illuminated by bright fluorescent lights that hung overhead, reflecting off the glossy maple wood flooring of the half-court. A student already wearing their P.E. uniform made their way across the midcourt line, setting up the day's activity. It looked like you were going to play dodgeball today.
As you look over the gym, your eyebrows furrow, your mouth creasing into a slight frown as you realize Masato is nowhere to be found. Did he really decide to skip his favorite class over something so petty?
"Guess he's not here," Kiyoshi suddenly pipes up from beside you, expression feigning concern as he glances over toward you and adds, "I suppose it's for the best; perhaps he needs some time to cool down?"
"I don't need time for shit," Masato's unmistakable voice grits out. He turns toward Kiyoshi, green eyes narrowed as he says, "But I do need to have a word with you, big bird. Alone." Kiyoshi scowls at the insulting nickname while Satome lets out an awkward laugh, grabbing ahold of your hand.
"W-Why don't we go get changed into our uniforms, (y/n)-chan?" She stammers, dragging you away from the two boys, the tension between them making the air grow thick with animosity. "W-We'll be right back!"
"But—" You begin to protest, concerned that a fight might happen, before being cut off by a pointed look from the black-haired girl who had yet to let go of your hand. She tightens her grip reassuringly, and you finally relent, allowing yourself to be pulled away, leaving the two boys alone with each other.

"So," Kiyoshi begins casually, turning to the shorter boy, "What did you want to talk to me about?" Masato glances around the crowded gym with a shake of his head, frowning.
"Not here," He says brusquely, shoving his hands into the pocket of his uniform pants, "Let's go to the locker room. More privacy that way, and besides, we've still got to change into our P.E. uniforms."
Kiyoshi nods in affirmation and follows the brunette to the locker rooms. After ensuring no one else was in the room with them, Masato locked the door and turned to the blond-haired boy with an intense look on his face. Kiyoshi quirks an eyebrow up, prompting the tan-skinned boy to speak.
"I love (y/n)-chan," Masato says simply. Kiyoshi rolls his eyes.
"Obviously." The blond snorts, crossing his arms over his chest. "What does that have to do with me though?" Masato growls, foresty-green eyes narrowing into slits as his lips curl into a snarl.
"Don't play dumb with me, blondie." Masato sneers. "It may only be your first day here, but I've seen the way you look at her—all dreamy and doe-eyed and innocent. You like her too; just admit it."
"And what if I do?" Kiyoshi challenges with a smirk, "She's fair game, isn't she? It's not like you've asked her out yet. Why's that, I wonder?" Masato scowls, his tanned cheeks flushing.
"I'm working up to it, you bastard!" He snaps, earning a sarcastic laugh from the other boy.
"Some progress you've made, huh?" Kiyoshi taunts before adding, "If (y/n)-san doesn't know how either of us feels, then it's an even playing field, wouldn't you agree? It's anyone's game."
"Stop saying that. She's not a game to me," Masato says sternly. The taller boy rolls his eyes again. "Back off or else."
"Or else, what?" Kiyoshi probes. "I think I'm becoming quite fond of (y/n)-san, and I'm not going to let some pipsqueak get in the way of that." He finishes just as the bell rings. Masato lets out an irritated sigh, annoyed at their conversation being cut short.
