"Ready to go?" Masato says with a grin as he steps out from under the overhang before pausing as raindrops begin falling from the sky. "Ah..."
"Oh!" Satome gasps, sticking her hand out and feeling the cold rain on her palm. "It's raining! It's a good thing I brought my umbrella," She hums, walking over to the school's umbrella stand and pulling out her red polka-dot umbrella. She grabs your (f/c) parasol as well, handing it to you. Masato watches her movements for a moment before turning to you with an embarrassed smile.
"(n/n)-chaaan..." Masato begins, clasping his hands together under his chin as he breaks out the soulful puppy-dog eyes, "Do you mind sharing your umbrella with me? I forgot mine." You let out an amused sigh, tilting your umbrella toward him.
"Of course not, dummy." You say with a smile, earning a cheer from the tan boy, who huddles up next to you with a satisfied grin and reddened cheeks. "Just bring your umbrella next time, 'kay?" You chastize lightly. Satome huffs, her cheeks puffing up as she pouts.
"Don't spoil him, (y/n)-chan, or he'll never learn his lesson," She sulks, the three of you making your way out of the school grounds and onto the sidewalk. Masato sticks out his tongue at her, grabbing your free hand and lacing his fingers within yours.
"You're just jealous," He points out smugly. Satome rolled her eyes and said nothing, her long black ponytail swaying behind her as she walked ahead.
It's about a fifteen-minute trek home, the walk there filled with the sound of laughter and the pitter-patter of raindrops hitting the pavement. The three of you all lived in the same neighborhood, only a few houses down from each other, a classic suburbia. Soon, you arrive at the first stop—Satome's house.
"See you guys later!" Satome promises, giving you a chaste kiss on the cheek and Masato a quick side hug before climbing the steps of her porch and disappearing behind the front door. Masato watches her go before he whirls on you, an excited look on his freckled face.
"Ne, (y/n)-chan, why don't you spend the night at my house?" He offers. You let out an unsure hum, fiddling with the handle of your umbrella as he continues. "It'll be just like when we were kids! We can share a bed and everything!"
"I dunno, Masato-kun..." You murmur, casting a meaningful glance toward the direction of your house. There was no car in the driveway, no one waiting for you to come home. You frown at the thought.
Your parents were successful business development managers who flew all over the country to oversee expansion projects and potential marketing opportunities. As such, they were often away from the house on business trips, leaving you alone most of the time. While you were grateful for the work they did to keep a roof over your head, you couldn't help but feel bitter at the same time. You missed them.
Sensing the drop in your mood, the brown-haired teen squeezes your hand, giving you a bright, comforting smile.
"C'mon, it'll be okay. Besides," Masato's smile drops into a pout as he swings your hand between the two of you childishly, "You haven't paid attention to me, like, at all today! That's not fair!" You turn to face him, giggling.
"You're eighteen, Masato-kun, not eight." You tease, earning a playful scoff from the boy before you add, "I'll come over, but I'll have to get some stuff from my place if I'm going to spend the night." Masato's eyes widened, and he fist-pumped the air, cheering.
The two of you make your way over to your home. You let go of his hand as you approach, handing him the umbrella to hold as you fumble for your keys and unlock the door.
Masato folds down your umbrella and slips off his shoes as he enters, and you do the same. You take in the sight of the living room as you set your things down on the couch, noting the decor.
