Seri woke to an empty bed, the clock flashing past three in the morning. The space under the bathroom door was dark, so she was alone in the master cabin. He wasn't far; she knew.
The side of her bed was warm, so he hadn't been gone for long. Maybe out for a smoke, or a snack in the kitchen, or maybe for some fresh air. Or maybe he was in pain again.
She knew he still put up a front when he was at his weakest moments. Despite her never-ending support and understanding, she understood that there was still pride he held onto. She wasn't going to fight him on it, but she sure as hell will be there to help him.
Flinging the sheets off, she put on her robe for modesty and set off to look for him. The moon tonight was bright and big, casting its natural light down from out the window so she could move around in the dark with ease.
Alone in the cruiser yacht named Poseidon, owned by Tyler, they had set sail a day ago for a small getaway out in the sea. Since Ri's 'retirement', time was all they had. Not that Seri had anything to complain about, because Ri walking around shirtless day in and out on a boat could easily be a spectator sport.
It took some time convincing him to sail out this far, as Seri wanted to be away from the people crowding near the harbor. They were supposed to meet Tyler on a foreign island, which he probably also had some kind of ownership of, in a few days. A small party, Tyler had called it. They cruised near Landao, the closest major city being Shanghai, and were set to leave again by the end of the week.
No surprise that Ri was against parties, but she had coaxed him to spend a few hours socializing. He first offered to drop her off while he stayed in the boat, but reluctantly agreed with her power of persuasion. Ten minutes of him in her mouth and he'd agree to a lot. Not everything, because Ri was Ri, but a lot. He wasn't a people person, but it was good to be around people. Sometimes. Seri loved him to death, but she yearned to be around others from time to time.
Dan and Seung-joon visited when they could, mostly stopping by on their way to work, which could be from Seoul to Israel, or Seoul to Switzerland. They traveled a lot for work. Recently, a surprise pregnancy thwarted much of their plans. It was their first pregnancy, and Dan was having an awfully hard time with it. Her nausea had gotten so bad she was often in and out of the hospital. Seung-joon had to cancel their assignments and stick by his wife. Seri hadn't heard from them for a bit, and luckily, had Daegu and Jeju to stay with the couple as support companions.
As for Ri and her, while 'work' was slow, they were okay.
At the time, they could be considered nomads. Home was where they both are. Their last location was one of Tyler's estates in his homeland in Australia, but it was time to find someplace new.
As to where it would be, that was something they had to discuss. Her top choices were the Bahamas, Los Angeles, Paris, Fiji, and Tokyo, but Ri wasn't too fond of places that were too dense with people. Where was the compromise?
Anywhere Ri was.
Things have changed in a year. Seri was no longer Yoon Seri. She incorporated Ri into her identity, and was now Ri Seri. Seri Ri. Ri, Seri. It wasn't official in the books—there were no books for them. But her life just two, three years ago was so different she didn't recognize who Yoon Seri was.
Seri found him out on the bow, sitting with his knees up on a floor mat. Wearing only boxer shorts, his muscular back faced her, and she drank him in from where she stood. Thanking the moonlight for its great job in painting all of his highlights, her heart still fluttered at the sight of him.
