Shane's POV:

There we stood. In fresh clothes. In of the threshold to my hell. My hands couldn't stop trembling. I wanted to get away from here as quickly as possible. No, I don't even want to be here.

Damien grabbed my right hand with his and looked deep into my eyes, leaning in slightly so that we were at eye level.

"One look at me and we're out of here, okay?" he sounded concerned and looked at me the same way. As if he didn't know what to do.

I nodded, took a deep breath, and rang the doorbell. It didn't take long and my 'mother' opened the door. Her gaze full of hatred and coldness, until she saw Damien, who was extremely tense.

"Oh, my dear, you're finally home! And who is this?" she looked at him with false friendliness, a look I knew all too well.

"Damien is my name, ma'am." he shook her hand and if I wasn't almost dying of fear, my jaw would have dropped to the floor. I know he's not that rude in his speech, but I've never heard him speak so formally before.

"Ah, so Shane has been staying with you for the past few days? But where are my manners, come on in. Dinner should be ready soon." Damien led the way and I followed directly behind him, but I could feel her murderous gaze on my back.

When we arrived in the dining room, my father was there, as well as Noah and Leah? I thought it was going to be an intervention or a mass brawl against me. My father stood up and introduced himself to Damien, who did the same. While Noah looked as if someone had shown him a fresh corpse. Leah, on the other hand, only paid attention to her phone. Fine by me, bitch.

"Please have a seat. There's room next to me, son." my father gestured for me to sit down. My blood froze in my veins, heat and cold alternated in my face, and I was sweating bullets.

"Sir, if you don't mind, I'd like to sit next to Shane." Damien saved me. Fuck, thank you Damien!

"No, of course not." my father smiled falsely and didn't even need to look at me. I knew how much he would love to beat me up in front of everyone. But his reputation is more important.

Damien sat down next to me, my parents and my brother and Leah sat across from us. I was dying of fear, I wanted to get out of here.

My hands trembled until my mother looked at me and raised an eyebrow.

"Damien, why don't you tell us, has Shane caused you any trouble?"

"No, ma'am, quite the opposite. His presence at my home has been quite pleasant." he spoke calmly, but I saw him fidgeting with his little finger under the table. Was he afraid too?

"Well, that's nice to hear. Would you like something to drink? We have almost everything here at home."

I shook my head, at which point my father rolled his eyes.

"Thank you for the offer. I'm not thirsty and I don't drink alcohol if I still have to drive." Damien spoke confidently.

My father cleared his throat and stood up. He looked at me. "Shane, would you please come to the kitchen with me?" he spoke calmly, but the underlying tone was filled with hatred and anger.

I nodded hesitantly and stood up. But Noah stood up at the same moment. "I'll just come along! I still want something to drink anyway."

Leah groaned in annoyance and looked at Noah.

"But honey, you can't just leave me all alone, can you?" she spoke like a snake. God, I hated her.

"You managed to find your way to my parents' house alone and accidentally told them everything." he said coldly and dryly, and left the room. Leah stared after him and my mother just shook her head. Meanwhile, Damien's gaze remained fixed on me. Thank you, Damien, really thank you!
