Sunflowers and Tattoos

Chapter 4

I avoided everyone this morning before school. I didn't talk I didn't say anything to anyone. I was still so upset from the night before and just wanted to be alone.Did my chores so I didn't have any problems just like she said.  As I looked in the mirror I noticed I had a small bruise on my cheek the scratch that was there also went down and the swelling on my lip had gone down but my cut was still visible but the scratch on my arm was bright red . I could feel my eyes start to tear up again but I wiped them away with my sweater.I wore a simple outfit today black oversized knitted sweater black leggings and my black converse  very emo.  Vanity and my dad went for breakfast this morning after they took the kids to school so I was currently waiting for Nathan to pick me up for school. I don't know why I gave in, I was actually planning on riding my bike but something in me just didn't want to be alone unless it was with him.

Its strange to think we just met but I feel so different around him. Yesterday I felt so free and I was so happy. I knew he was worried about me last night , Vanity made sure that the whole fucking town could hear her when she yelled at me through the phone. Poor Nathan, I know better than to bring him down with me, I don't want him to have to put up with what  I do . I don't want him to know that underneath this facade  is a sad weak girl who still lets her step mom hurt her. It's pathetic. 

I was sitting on the front porch when I see Nathans truck pull up. I stand up to grab my bike and walk up to the truck and watch as he comes to the back to help me put my bike in. " Hi Addy how  did you sleep ?You look pretty today " he says pulling me into a hug. I look up at him " I slept okay I guess , I'm not gonna lie  I'm still very tired and you look pretty today also ." I say stepping back from him. I hear him laugh , " How about we go grab a coffee and and a muffin before we go to class? Get some energy in you I don't need you falling asleep again ": I nod at him , a coffee and muffin doesn't sound bad. He opens my door for me as I hop in and I smile at him. He smiles back at me and I notice a look of worry in his eyes. 

" Alright Addy lets hear your playlist " . He hooks up my phone to his truck before we start driving. Im scrolling through my phone before I settle on Kings of Leon. Use Somebody plays softly in the back ground as I lean my head against the window and close my eyes. Out of the corner of my eye I can see Nathan nodding his head to the song. He looks over at me " Addy are you okay" . " Yes I'm okay just sleepy". I smile at him and feel the small sting of my lip. He just nods at me and doesn't push me to talk. Im glad he doesnt because I know I'll start crying . We arrive at a small coffee shop and order our drinks and muffins,  I pull out my wallet as Nathan shakes his head no at me. " Nathan you paid for the games yesterday let me pay this time." I frown at him. " No Addison don't worry about it I offered Im paying put your wallet up. " I glare at him and he gives me one of his stupid smirks. " Next time Im paying do not fight me on this . " He hands me me my drink and muffin " Okay whatever you say darlin" . We sip on our drinks and arrive at school. We still had time before we go into class so we sat in his truck and ate our muffins listening to music..

" Hows your muffin Ive never actually tried the  raspberry kind?" Nathan says . " Its good do you wanna try it ?" He holds out his hand as I bring the muffin to his lips . " Oh I thought you were gonna just hand me a piece not feed me " he laughs. My eyes widen at how I was just offering him a bite instead of just giving him a small piece . " Ugh is that okay, I wasn't thinking im sorry ?" I say pulling my hand away. " Addy its fine let me try it I was just joking I don't have cooties." he jokes.  I reach back up and he holds the bottom of my hand as he takes a bite. " Thats really good I like that one " nodding as he chews.  Duh , raspberries are the best kind of berries. We don't say anything else as we finish our breakfast. 

" Addison "he finally says after gathering our trash. " Yeah?" I say. " Ugh I promise Im not trying to cross any boundaries and you sure as fuck don't have to tell me anything you're uncomfortable with, but love what happened to your face?" I shake my head as he reaches over to run his thumb across the bruise on my cheek.
