Girl, tell me whatcha doing on the other side?”Nick asked me from the opposing team. He was struggling to lift Chris on his shoulders and I was sitting comfortably on Matt’s. We’re playing a friendly/not-so-friendly game of Chicken in my pool. I adjusted my cropped, teal, swimsuit top and rested my arms on Matt’s head.

“Just choosing the winning partner.” I said with a smirk on my face and we awkwardly high-fived.

“Ahhh… Fuck you.” He responded and we all laughed. The music boomed from the deck speaker and people chattered aimlessly. Did I forget to mention it was my birthday? Well it is and I decided to throw a party.

Chris and I interlocked fingers and began the battle, in which I promptly lost and fell. Matt saved me from a harsh fall however and I squeezed him in thanks. He patted my back and I exited the pool.

“Here.” A new voice said, handing me a towel.

“Thanks!” I responded gratefully and wrapped it around my shoulders. “I’m sorry this is so rude but do I know you?” I asked.

“Oh no My buddy brought me along I’m Ryan.” He held a hand out in front of me for me to shake and I accepted the invitation.

“Y/n.” I said with a smile. I looked Ryan up and down appraising him and noticed he wasn’t the worst looking guy in the world. Strong jaw, green eyes, sandy blonde hair. Around 5’10 if I had to guess.

“Y/n!” I turn around to see Chris waving me over.

“I’ll see you around Ryan.” I said and he gave me a gracious nod. I jogged across to Chris over by the pool table and he tossed me a cue.

“Tell me whatcha doin with that other guy.” He said breaking sending a stripe into a far corner pocket.

“Who Ryan?” I asked and he nodded.” Just talking, he gave me a towel.”I said, flapping my cape. He sent another stripe into the middle pocket. Maybe just a little aggressive. Just a tad.

“Woah dude chill.” I said once he missed and I took my place lining up a shot.

“I ain't got patience to slow down the pace.” He said with a shrug. Then Chris’s friend Evan wandered over.
“Hey man, have you seen my girl?” He asked.

“All your girlfriends are drunk.” He said and gestured to the two girls on lounge chairs.

“Thanks dude.” He gave him a dap and he wandered back off again. In the meantime I had made three and missed my fourth.

“Why do you think they get drunk all the time?” He asked. Taking his spot.

“Attention.” I answered simply.

“Huh?”

“They want it. They chase it. You’ll know it when you taste it.”

“If you say so.” He missed his next shot so I took over sinking two more of mine.

“Damn girl you're good at this.” He said and I laughed.

“Lots and lots of practice Sturniolo.” I answered him, moving out of the way.

“All of your friends have been here for too long.” He gestured at the party.

“You think I should kick everyone out?” I asked and he missed his shot.

“I’m not saying you should but I’m not saying you shouldn’t.” He said with a shrug. I sunk my last ball and appraised the 8.

“Well I think it’s about time anyway, middle left.”I said, calling the pocket. I sunk the 8 and the cue just barely stayed on the table.

“Girl, we are WAITING for you to move on.” Some girls said walking by.

“Good game Chrissy Crumble.” I gave him a high five and he scoffed at me.

“I’m just not with it today, that's all. I totally would’ve won.” He said.

“Ok Hon you tell yourself that.” I joked back and nudged his shoulder with my own. Matt walked over rubbing his eyes and collapsed into his boyfriend.

“My eyes are so heavy,'' he mumbled. And Chris struggled to hold him up.

“Here.” I opened the sliding door and maneuvered it so we could drop Matt on the couch.

“You’ve never been loved.” He mumbled in his sleep. “Running in circles.”

“Now look at what you’ve done to him Y/n.” Chris joked.

“I give you my word I sure as hell didn’t do this.” I held a fist to my heart and the other behind my back to my opposite shoulder. “Scout’s honor.” I said with a raised brow and he smiled at my stupid joke.

“Will you let me stay?” He asked

“Sure.” I shrugged.

“Ok just give me some time to get Nick and we’ll help get everyone out.” He said.

“Oh, yeah sure, you don’t have to do that.”

“Well SAM… You were a little too busy sleeping with other guys at that moment so SORRY I didn’t tell you sooner!” A voice shouted into his phone.

“Oop.” I said simply but Chris was gone to find Nick. Leaving me alone with a comatose Matt on my couch.
