Rosalie PoV
Standing by the cars with my family and Alex in front of the school, we're all brought out of our individual conversations by the sound of a horrendously loud engine. But unlike the engine in Alex's muscle car which is loud due to the power it packs, this one is loud in the same way as an awful speaker turned to full volume is loud. "Here comes Bella. Now you'll see just how plain she is" Alex's voice whispered in my ear, but based on Sab and Emmett's laugh they still heard her. Which we both knew they obviously would. But seeing the girl who exited the car, I can't help but agree with her. While some would probably find her pretty, she lacked anything to set her apart from every other awkward teenage girl at school. Looking around at my adopted siblings to see their reactions, I couldn't help but notice how Edward looked at her. It was a face fighting between frustration and curiosity, and it gave me a bad feeling.
Before we split up to go to our individual classes, Alex leaned in and gave me a quick kiss before walking off with a salute and a wink. If I could blush, I would. And Alex knows that.
Cafeteria
As we enter the cafeteria as a group, I immediately hear Bella's question of who we are to Jessica, and at that moment I appreciate Alex's arm casually on my shoulder even more. I sneak my own arm around her hips, and the boyish smile she sends me sends flutters throughout my entire stomach. "The Cullens" Ahh Angela, the girl who Alex told me was the only one willing to have any sort of interaction with her after the fight with Mike. According to Alex, she's a total blessing to the world and a ray of sunshine in the perpetually cold and cloudy town of Forks. If we weren't mates I would've probably been jealous about how highly she speaks of her.
"Doctor and Mrs. Cullen's foster kids. They all moved down here from Alaska two years ago. And then there's Alexis Ravenwood, a relatively recent addition to their clique" Jessica. The sole reason for Alex being branded as a pariah, and the main advocate for her exclusion. Just thinking about her would make my blood boil if I had any, but the venom burned me enough as is. "They kinda keep to themselves" The small scoff from Jessica in response to Angela's statement gave me an idea of what was coming next. "Because they're all together. Like, together together. The blonde girl, Sabrina, and the big dark-haired guy, Emmett, they're a thing… I'm not even sure that's legal"
The scoff coming from my lips made Alex look at me with a raised eyebrow. "Jessica?" A small hum and a nod was all the answer I gave her, but in typical Alex fashion, it was all she needed in order to gently squeeze my shoulder and give me a small smile. "Jess, they're not actually related" Completely ignoring Angela, Jessica steamrolled ahead. "But they live together. And the little dark haired girl, Alice, she's really weird.. she's with Jasper, the blonde, who looks like he's in pain" This time I felt my spine stiffen, since I knew what was coming next. "Then there's the other blonde, Rosalie. A total ice queen if I've ever seen one. And the tall girl with purple hair who's practically attached to her hip? That's Alexis. They're total lesbos, and not to mention Alexis's psychotic streak"
At this point I was gritting my teeth in anger, and based on the sympathetic looks everyone but Edward was giving me and Alex, I knew they felt my anger. And for a change, Jasper looked more consumed by his own anger than the emotions of those around him. While she couldn't hear what was being said, the way Alex's hand gently squeezed my thigh told me she had a pretty good idea of what was going on.
"A while back, she beat Mike into a pulp. While it's true Mike started the fight, by the time she had sent Mike to the hospital she'd barely gotten so much as a scratch" Angela's shoulders went stiff, and the way she looked at Jessica betrayed some of her feelings on the matter. "That's not fair at all Jessica. Mike accused her of raping you, after need I remind you, you had sex with her entirely consensually?" At this point everyone at the table looked tense and awkward, Mike in particular doing his best to look at anything that wasn't any of the people at the table. While the urge to feel jealous was there, the way Alex wrapped her arms around me reminded me that she didn't know the truth at that point.
"She isn't my mate, you are. No one else can come close to that" Her whisper in my ear gave me comfort, and the others at the table at least pretended not to hear her this time. "Whatever Angela, she could've still killed Mike if the cops hadn't pulled her away from him. That's psychotic behaviour" With a scoff, Angela got up and started to walk away from the table. She looked at Alex guilty, before turning away and leaving the cafeteria altogether. "I understand why you speak about Angela so highly now Alex" Sabs voice was a nice distraction, and made my focus return to our own table. "I assume she defended my honour? As much as I appreciate it, I just hope it doesn't eventually turn her into an outcast. She doesn't deserve that" With Alex's statement, we all decided without words that leaving now would benefit all of us, and that it wouldn't be worth sticking around to hear what else Jessica had to say about our found family.
Front of school, end of day
Standing by Alex's car while leaning against her with her arms wrapped around me, we were all gathered here while waiting for Edward. "I'm sorry today was so rough on you" Alex's voice is hardly a whisper, but hearing how reassuring she is still puts a small smile on my face. "It's alright. If anyone should be offended it should be you" Her muted laughter still sent vibrations through her body into mine. "It's okay babe. Sad as it is to say, I was used to this treatment back in Cali after everything was said and done. It doesn't really bother me, even though I know it should. I appreciate your outrage on my behalf though" This gained Jasper's attention as he looked at both of us with furrowed brows. "Of course we're offended. You're as much our sister as Rosalie is, and the way they were talking about you was way out of line. Used to it or not, that's unacceptable behaviour" The others gave nods and words of agreement, but we were all interrupted by Edward stomping out of the main entrance of the school.
"I need to go, right now. Otherwise I'll lose control" This caused all of us to get into our cars, in order to get home as fast as possible. Turning to Alex, I gave her a short and chaste kiss farewell. "I'll see you tomorrow Alex. This seems serious, so I'll have to join the others" While her eyes showed sadness, it was gone as soon as it appeared, replaced by a small smile. "Alright, I'll see you tomorrow babe"
Cullen household
As we all walked through the door, Edward immediately started pacing around the living room. "I'll need to leave for a while, I can't be near her or I'll kill her" We all looked at him confused and unsure what he was talking about. All of us except Alice of course. "What do you mean you need to leave? Who are you talking about?" Sab's confusion was obvious, and I feel like the question was asked for the sake of all of us. "The new girl. Bella. Her blood sings to me, and even more infuriatingly I can't hear her thoughts. It's like they don't exist or just aren't there" Esme had entered the room doing his spiel, and was looking distraught at the idea of him leaving. "Where do you plan to go?" If she could cry properly like a human, then she would definitely be crying. "I'll go to Alaska, go up to the Denali. I don't know when I'll be back"
At this point I was starting to feel irritated and restless. "Is this human your mate or something?" His cold stare landed on me, clearly frustrated with my question. "I don't know, maybe. It's hard to tell over the way her blood sings. But it's not like you out of all of us can say anything, since your mate is human too" While he was right, unlike Bella I knew my mate was my mate. There was never any doubt, at least not once I accepted that she was a she, not a he. This girl sounds like she's just his blood singer, so he better not do anything stupid for a girl that's probably not even his mate. As it stands, he would have no way of knowing until she's already turned, or until he's killed her.
"Just leave me alone Rosalie, I can't be bothered to listen to your hypocritical nagging right now" Before I even had a chance to jump on him, I was already held back by both Emmett and Sab. They only let go as he sped out of the room. "Who does he think he is?! He isn't even sure she's his mate! Have you seen anything Alice?" As all eyes shifted to her, she shifted around a bit. "I've seen them together. I can't tell if they're mates or not, but he'll either end up killing her or being involved with her" I let out an angry sound between a snarl and a growl. "Perfect. Just perfect. He'll inevitably end up blowing our cover by killing the girl, or he'll do it by outing us to someone he can't even confirm as his mate. Me and Alex haven't even had time to complete our bond, so at this rate… If I lose her because of him… I'll kill him for that"
Not waiting for anyone to respond to me, I speed out of the front door and slam it closed behind me as I make my way towards the forest. I need to be alone. Ideally I need Alex, but I can't go to her like this. Hunting. I'll hunt, if only to distract myself until I calm down.
