The air is cold, filled with the electricity of a storm coming in. Thunder already rumbling in the distance and snow falling in swirls down to the ground. The sun had gone behind the clouds hours ago, leaving the coldness to ache into his knee.
One week, he thinks, one week and he can burn the crutches.
It wouldn't be the first time that a snow storm would come on land and thunder around. As a kid he always watched those storms from the trees, never understanding the word danger. Yet, it is still something he just ignores.
With a last glance at the storm in the distance, he ducks into the warmth of the meeting room. Watching as all his counsellors are already waiting for him.
Two men come to his aid the moment he walks in, immediately taking the pile of parchment from under his arm. The taller one with the dark hair takes the parchment and the shorter one takes an arm and keeps him upright and off his injured knee.
Once he's seated in his fur covered chair, both his wolves Jimmy and Sassy sitting on either side of him. Jimmy, a golden brown furred wolf, having his tongue lopsided out of its mouth. While Sassy, a black furred wolf, looks on with much attitude.
The shorter man, with the lighter brown hair gives him a scolding look. "Didn't Sebastian tell you to walk with both crutches?" He asks, his arms folded over his chest as he takes his seat next to him and the taller man with dark brown hair, almost black.
"How else was i supposed to bring those scrolls, Christian?" Max asks, ignorant to the fact that it would temper with his recovery.
The taller man raises an eyebrow, placing the scrolls on the meeting table. "You have to be careful with yourself, Max." The taller man scolds him, both acting as if they are his parents.
They are.
He and his younger sister are legally adopted by Christian and his husband Toto. Both his biological parents no longer in their lives, the two man are all he and his sister have regarding to parents and family.
Max sighs, he knows they're right. "I'm sorry." Max answers to them, bowing his head to show he understands.
"We'll talk about this after the meeting." Christian says, unrolling the scroll that's on top of the pile. The first of the many problems they will have to review, discuss and solve.
The meeting goes on and on, a part of him is slowly nodding off. Listening to counsel members talk about grain and harvest reports isn't his strong suit. It's so boring that even Toto and Christian nod off, the only member that doesn't nod off to sleep is Otmar, the counsellor that's in charge of the reports and the yearly harvest.
