Family is supposed to be a bond that no one can break. They're the one's who are meant to be there for you. Meant to care for you. However, not every parent deserves to be one. Not when they hurt their children for any reason.
Two figures sitting across from one another with a drink on the table. Familiar with one another but feeling like they didn't know the person in front of them.
Silence filling the small space between the two of them as they drank from their cups. Setting them down at the same time. Like parent and child. Destined to be stuck by the blood they shared.
A father who looked at his daughter. In his eyes she was back to being a little girl and calling for him to check for monsters under her bed. Having no worries and trusting him to keep her safe.
Across from him being the daughter that saw him as nothing but what he really was. The monsters she used to see under the bed. Not trusting him with anything about her life anymore. Eyes that once looked at him with admiration now holding a look of hatred.
"You hate me that much, huh?" The man asked her.
"What's there to like about you?" The girl asked and crossed her arms.
"We are family. We have to stick together. We can be exactly like before." He replied. "I'm doing this for us all."
"No." The girl replied. "You're doing it because you're sick. A normal father wouldn't be doing what you did."
"Come back home." The man spoke as he ignored her comment.
"I'm not going back to you and your sick plans. I pity you but you will not have me under your control any longer." She spoke before getting up.
The man got up and grabbed her wrist immediately.
The girl yanked herself out of his hold as she turned to him. "I am not going to be a puppet for you to use as you please. If you try to stop me again I will forget you were ever my father at all." She warned before leaving the diner they had met up at before heading down the street and spotting the car she had become familiar with.
Getting into the passengers seat and buckled up. Leaning back against the seat.
"You okay?" The guy in the driver's seat asked his girlfriend.
"I'm okay." She reassured as she smiled his way a bit. "Let's head home now.." She spoke at the moment.
The guy gave a small smile back before nodding and driving away. Not having seeing who her father was. Something she knew was for the better. Knowing how her father was. Unaware that her own father was the one who had taken her boyfriend's brother years ago. For now only focusing on getting back home.
The girl leaned back in her seat and closed her eyes. Keeping her breathing steady as she eventually succumbed to her sleep.
HER DREAM ━
It was always a good day when she went to sleep. A day that she could still feel the warmth of the sun on her skin as if she was still a kid.
The loud kids in the background brought back that nostalgic feeling of just being a kid and amongst those kids she could always find her friends voices.
Running to their table as she grinned. "I'm here! Don't start without me!" The girl spoke up as she took her seat.
The usual of her dream.
They chat. They laugh. They're just kids being kids.
Until the lights go out and there's a spotlight on her. Sending a shiver down her spine that paralyzed her in fear.
"WhY...?" A voice spoke from the darkness.
She could feel that it was coming from behind her despite it sounding like it was all around her. No longer the child she was but being her adult self. "I didn't know.."
"It'S All YoUr FaUlT."
'YoU dId ThIs To uS."
"No! He did that and I was.. I would've stopped him if I had known. Even if he did the same thing to me. You're my friends." The girl spoke to the disembodied voices around her. Glancing down as she felt her breathing pick up.
Clutching her shirt as she felt like the room was growing warmer and smaller with every second that passed in that spotlight. "I.."
There was never a day where she didn't feel like that at least once in a while. Her knee slightly bouncing up and down while she focused on her breathing the best she could.
It was suffocating. Like there was a limit on how much air she could have and there was nothing she could do about it.
Her head spinning as all she wanted to do in that moment was lay down and close her eyes for a long time.
That's how it always ended. Her a mess in her own thoughts about the memories she tried so hard to keep suppressed to the back of her mind while the man who had done all the wrong doings was at peace with his dreams at night.
That was her life after what she experienced. Waking up covered in sweat and her heart racing more than normal. Feeling like there was no escape as she could feel the aftermath of the way her nightmares made her feel.
