The musty building awakes all of my senses, I hear the glass break as I take my first steps into the building. I look around, I have been in other buildings before but this one is different. I have never seen one with so much glass. Its everywhere on the walls, shattered on the floor. I walk through each room of the building till there is one room left that I haven't looked through. I walk through the doorframe and see that the entire room hasn't been touched. There is no broken glass on the floors, all the glass is hanging on the walls. Its a mirror room. There are mirrors everywhere I look. There is a door that must be a closet and then on the other side of the room there is a long wooden bar that hangs up on the wall. I walk over to the bar and rub my hand across the smooth wood. Why hasn't this room been damaged? I hear something behind me move. Instead of turning around I look at the wall. I see myself, the dust that is floating around in the air and then the door . Then I turn around. There is nothing. I walk towards Where I thought I herd the sound come from but there is just a small door. I put my hand on the freezing cold knob. I slowly turn it. I open it slowly and a loud screech erupts from it. Dust flies out of the door, I look in the room and see that there are stairs that lead up to a room. As I step into the room the floor creaks, each step I take I hear a loud screech scream from the old wooden steps. The thin narrow hallway makes me feel like the walls are going to start moving inward making sure I will never escape again to see the outside world, the thought of that makes me climb faster and faster. The ceiling of the hallway has a eery feeling to it, there a billions of spider webs that intervene with one another that it looks like someone spread yarn all over the ceiling. I finally have made it to the top of the stairs. I slowly open the door the handle is incredibly warm unlike the one at the bottom of the steps. I turn the knob slowly. But the door won't open, I push the door a little and a little more but no matter how much I force the door open it won't open. I push it one last time as hard as I can and I hear the sounds of something cracking. I step back down the step because I have never heard a door sound like that. The door fall to the ground in front of me. There are no hinges on it for it to open in or out. I walk up the step again and step over the door that is laying on the ground. The room inside is astonishing. In front of me is piles and piles of books everywhere I look there are thousands of books. There is a tiny table and a lamp that is turned on. The lamp is lit up with a purple color but I shouldn't know what that color is. The table is a pretty dark brown color that makes the whole room look exceptionally prettier. I walk over to one of the piles of books that are stacked neatly. I pick up one with a cover that has a man sitting on a bench the cover of the book is white. The title reads Forrest Gump By: Winston Groom. I set the book aside and examine one that has a boat out in the middle of the sea and there is a man and some creature that is cat like. The title read Life of Pi By:Yann Martel. I look at each of the books in the stack theres so many different colors and so many different names. I pick up another book that is huge, it is different from all of the other books in this one the pages a slimmer and more lightweight. It is a black book that has many many pages in it but there is another thing about this book is that it has no author as well but it dose have a title that shines in gold letters The Holy Bible. I put that one to the side as well along with the many others. The next book I pick up looks a little horrific. On the cover is what looks like a cat and a women with a broomstick. The women wears a evil looking smile and the cat all of its fur stands straight up. In big letter the title reads Grimm's Fairy Tales By: The Grim brothers. I have never seen a book written by two people I think. I hear a noise and look back behind me, I see a whole stack of book falling and if I don't move they are going to fall right on me. I drop the Grimm's fairy tales and leap across the floor. I look behind me to see the books would of fallen right where I was sitting. I look over and see a man standing right in front of where the stacked books were.
"Who are you!" I say angrily then say "Why did you try to kill me!" I say and also knowing I am exaggerating.
"The question I should be asking is who are you and how did you find me!" The man answers, the man looks to be a little older than me and he's not really a man but rather a boy, I think he's ether 16 or 17, he has pale blue eyes and light blonde hair that is fairly long, his arms and legs are pale and what shocks me most is what he is wearing. He's wearing black pants like what the conservatrics would wear and his shirt you could tell that it used to be white but he somehow died it blue.
"umm"I say then answer "My name is Hayln and my last name well it shouldn't be any of your concern, I found you well umm thats a long story."
"I have time."He says with a half smile that looks like a famous painting I read about I think the name was Monta Lis. So I tell the man of the story of how I found the book here and then I ran into him. The man still doesn't seem quite sure but then he says
"Well I know you telling the truth about the man that was hung because I was the one who hung him." I stare at the man standing in front of me he's a killer and I am alone in a building and nobody knows where I am. I swallow hard "Oh well that explains my mystery, now tell me who are you?" I say knowing that if I don't act scared theres most likely nothing that he will do. He looks at me puzzled, Witch I would be too if I told someone I just killed someone and then the other person wants to know who you are like they are your friend. The man/boy doesn't answer me.
"Wait...are you Zackery Miller?" I asks curiously
"You are a strange one you know that? I have never met someone who asks so many questions or isn't that afraid of someone that they meet in a creepy abandoned building." He says but let has not answered my question.
"Yes I know I am different I am very different and I am glad of it, I am not like everybody else in the society who is the same being the same is very bad." I say thinking if he's going to kill me anyway why not tell him what I think of the world that we live in. He lets out a small laugh like I said something funny.
"You seem smarter than the others too? How is that?" This time I let out a small laugh. then quietly say
"look around you my friend." I spread my arms out to all the books around us.
"you read?"He says quiet shocked.
"You seem smarter than the others too." I say with a touch of sarcasm.
"Haha well you have already caught me with my books that are hidden here but how do you read especially if you live by the rules of the society?"
"My father he is one of the leaders here." I watch the mans face turn cold again.
"Your saying that a girl like you that is so high up reads defying not just the laws but the ones that her own father has created." Maybe this guy isn't as smart as I thought considering I have just said this.
"Well yes... you see I don't want to be like everybody else I want to be different I want to be smarter I don't want to know just what everyone else knows I want to know more and in this case books are the only way I can get the information I need so yes I will break the laws because I am not going to let them defy who I am." I say. I look up at the man he looks astonished like I just gave him the best speech in the world to him.
"You know what." He says with a smile then finishes his sentence. "I am going to make a deal with you." I look up at the man now that he has my interest. "I will let you read all of my books and in return you tell me information that you hear your father saying about what is happening with the society." He hold out his hand I am guessing wanting me to shake it.
"Deal" I say and grab his hand that is very very much bigger than mine.
"okay but if I am going to be working with you what is your name?" I ask
"oh" he says then laughs that eery laugh of his "Its The Keeper."
