I could tell we weren't looking at the same thing. She was cursing way too much to be looking at a moving truck. Maybe she sees something else. I look at her and follow her eyes to a shirtless guy. He was obviously wearing a white shirt at one point because it was draped over his shoulder. He was glistening in the sunlight because of his sweat. I could see he had tattoos, but I couldn't tell what any of them were. At that moment he just put down a box and wiped his forehead. I swear I heard Madison whimper. He's making her swoon! I guess he felt us staring because he looked right at us and smirked. That's weird. The license plate says California. Why would someone like him move from Cali to Bama?

"Omg, Chey. He's so sexy!" Madison silently screamed.

"We can't just stand here, let's go to the swings. Then, you can stare at him." I rationalize.

Finally averting her eyes, Madison and I walk to the swings. I plop into the blue chained one, as always, while she gets into the white chained one.

"Who do you think he is?" Madison wonders. I see a glimmer of mischief in her eyes.

"Well this is the first time I've seen him, so I don't know any better than you do." I can already tell she plans on finding out who he is. That's another difference between us; I am a shy person, I can't just walk up to a stranger and start a conversation, but Maddie can. I think that's how she has so many friends. She takes risks and they generally end up well on her part.

"Well I intend to find out who he is." She has a devious smile and it honestly scares me. She must be concocting one of her plans.

"How in the hell do you plan on doin' that?"

"Okay, I was thinking we could walk back up to your house and get a drink." She turned her head to me, with a smug grin. "Then we can take a walk on the dirt road. When we start to pass his house, I can faint-"

"Hold up. Faint? Maddie, what if you fall too hard and seriously hurt yourself? You know you're accident prone." I tease her.

"No I am not! Anyways, I took theater, I know how to act." She gave me the evil eye like I doubted her, so I just raised my hands in mock surrender. "So I 'faint' and you can yell 'help!' Then ole boy will run and save me!" She squealed and clapped her hands.

I sat there, dumbfounded. I began shaking my head no.

"What do you mean no!?" Madison yelled.

"There's no need for all of that."

"And why not? It's genius!"

"Madison, he's walking our way. Right now." I whispered.
