Maddie looks at me with a confused face. I subtly shake my head no in hopes to silence her question. I know she is not going to let me live this down. Her confusion then turns to amusement, confirming my fear of embarrassment.
"I've already met Cheyenne, but she never said anything about a boyfriend." Asher responds.
"Well, I'm sure she was goin' to once she got comfortable enough to speak 'round you." Ryder lies.
Asher rolled his eyes. Ryder looks down at me with an I don't like this kid face. I lightly squeeze his side to restrain him from making a smart remark.
Madison then breaks the silence, "How about Cheyenne and I go in and get ready while you boys go get ready? Then, we'll meet back here in, let's say, an hour and go get some food. We can eat and get to know each other at once. Two birds, one stone."
After looking back at one another, no one disagrees so Asher says his farewells and walks towards his house. Once he is out of earshot, Madison then does a quick interrogation of the situation. Ryder explains his reasoning to her, then kisses my forehead. He says his goodbyes, then gets in his truck. Madison and I go in my house and start getting ready.
"Cheyenne and Ryder sitting in a tree k-" I hold up my hand and give her a death glare to stop her before she can sing the rest of the stupid rhyme. "Okay, okay. I totally think Ryder is jealous, or at least worried that you might be attracted to Asher."
"What?" I laugh, "That's hilarious. Ryder doesn't get jealous; besides, he has no reason to. I already told him that you called dibs on Asher."
"Damn straight I called dibs. That boy is so fine! Just looking at him and his tattoos makes me want to melt, hunny." Madison says as she goes through my closet.
One of the best things about our friendship is our ability to share clothes. Most of the time though, she just wears hers and I wear mine considering our styles are almost polar opposites.
I sit on my bed and begin to apply my makeup, making sure to not mess up the wings on my eyeliner. I have hardly any make up skills. I'm only good at applying eye shadow, eyeliner, and mascara. I can't put on foundation or contour. Madison keeps telling me that I should learn and that she'd be willing to teach me; however, I'm perfectly fine with having a bare face. Besides, I don't really know the names of the products used other than foundation and concealer. That fact alone is a "crime against beauty" to Madison. I'm just glad she's not stuck up, even though she tends to occasionally dress like someone who is. She's super down to earth and extremely supportive.
"You should definitely wear this! I didn't even know you were capable of owning such a shirt!" Madison exclaims.
I turn around to see what she's found after I put the last of my make up onto the dresser.
"No, no, no. I can't wear that Madison! That's not really my style. Besides, it might make Ryder think: 1. This is a date or 2. I'm trying to get Asher's attention. Both are not what I'm goin' for." I look at the white crop top with lace hanging off the bottom and the sleeves. I really do like the shirt, but I'm too self conscious. I could never pull that off, that's definitely something meant for Madison to wear. I only bought it because I thought it was beautiful. I never had any intentions on wearing it.
"Okay, first off Cheyenne, what's so bad about Ryder thinking that this a date? I mean, you're not talking to anyone and he's clearly head over heels in love with you. You guys are best friends and you've always wanted your boyfriend to be your best friend. Don't get me wrong or anything, but I don't see what's wrong with Ryder. Why don't you like him? I mean he's literally your dream boyfriend."
"I know, I know. There's nothing wrong with Ryder, he really is perfect for me. It's just that I'm scared." I admit.
"Why are you scared?"
"I love this boy with all my heart. What if something happens and I fuck it up? Not only would I lose my boyfriend, but I'd also lose my best friend. Besides, I honestly don't think he likes me like that." I fake laugh awkwardly.
"Hunny, listen to me. I can see the way he looks at you when you aren't looking. He adores you. He even told Asher that y'all were dating just so he wouldn't try anything!" Madison laughs.
I can't help but to actually laugh now, "I know, what was up with that!? It was cute how protective and possessive he got."
"See, so please just trust me. Wear this and I promise you'll be more confident, besides this is kind of a real fake date. He did tell Asher you guys were dating."
"Okay, fine. I'll put it on, but if I don't like it I'm putting on something I'm comfortable with wearing." I say as I grab the crop top off the bed.
I put on a pair of my daisy duke shorts. I swear I have about fifty pairs. Then I put on the lacy crop top and curl my hair.
While I'm doing all that, Maddie puts on a crop top of her own that she stashes over here in case something like this ever happens. It was the first time it's came in handy. It was a blue top that made her eyes stand out. She then put on some shorts and her Chacos.
I just finished curling my hair and was about to put on my cowboy boots when I get a text from Ryder: "Hey darlin', I'm outside and this city slicker just walked up. Please get out here before I say something that ain't nice."
Oh great, I hope I look good in this crop top because I don't have time to change if I don't.
