Later that night, as the hotel room fell into a quiet stillness, Seth and Richie found themselves on the balcony, away from prying eyes. The neon lights of the city painted their faces with an eerie glow, and the warm desert breeze rustled through Seth's hair.

Richie leaned against the balcony railing, his eyes fixed on Seth. "So, Seth, care to explain what's going on with you and Kate?"

Seth sighed, his shoulders slumping. He had known that this conversation was coming. "It's not what you think, Richie. We've just... grown closer. We've been through a lot together."

Richie raised an eyebrow, his tone teasing. "Grown closer, huh? You've got that protective look in your eyes when you're around her. It's like you've never been this...soft."

Seth hesitated before replying, "Richie, I can't deny that she means a lot to me. She's been a true partner, and there's an age gap, but that's not the point."

Richie grinned mischievously. "Ah, the age gap. So, she's a young, innocent thing, and you're the older, experienced man who's swept her off her feet. I see."

Seth bristled at the insinuation. "It's not like that, Richie. Kate's not a kid; she can handle herself. And age doesn't define everything."

Richie chuckled, but his tone grew more serious. "I get it, Seth. I do. But you know we can't afford distractions. Our lives are already complicated enough, and now we've got this...thing between you two."

Seth nodded, acknowledging the challenge. "I know, Richie. We'll be careful, and we won't let it get in the way of the job."

Richie's expression softened. "Just don't let your feelings cloud your judgment. We've got each other's backs, no matter what."

Seth placed a hand on Richie's shoulder. "I won't, Richie. We're still a team, no matter what else is going on."

As they stood there on the balcony, the age gap and the complexities of their relationship weighed on Seth's mind. The future was uncertain, but one thing was clear – they would face it together, just as they always had.
