Sera wasn't having a good day before she read the letter. First of all, she didn't have any more coffee beans to put in her coffee maker, so she had had a rough morning without her coffee. She had been late for work, and AT work she had gotten into an argument with a customer, which had gotten her into trouble with her boss.
She was very annoyed and frustrated by the time she got home from work at 3. She parked her car and slammed the door with a bang as she got out, as if it was he innocent little gray Sedan's fault that her day was going so badly. She walked up to the tall red mailbox that was standing up straight next to her house. Reaching in, Sera caught hold an envelope.
"Huh?" She mumbled to herself. The envelope didn't have a return address, Curious, she ripped it open and unfolded the letter tucked inside. It read:
"Did you think you would get away with that? I will never forgive you. You will be safe from me by doing one thing:
I need the amulet. And quickly. If you do not give me that amulet in a week from now, I will hunt you down and take everything you love.
You know who I am."
Sera was distressed. Harry was going to take her family? Her stuff? She hadn't realized that marrying his best friend Tom (after dating him) would make his so upset. She had known he was annoyed at the wedding three days ago, but seriously? What is up with that?
And he wanted the amulet. The ONE thing Sera's mother left her with when she left Sera and her dad. The ONE thing she had treasured for years. It had been such a mistake to bring it to work today and tell him it was worth thousands of dollars. Why had she done that?

"Get him, Kyle!"
"I'm trying!"
"Kyle, come inside immediately! You're filthy!"
Kyle sighed. His mom ruined every game of soccer that Kyle played with Matt and Wyatt. And they couldn't play at his friends' houses because matt and Wyatt didn't have big yards like Kyle had.
"I gotta go, guys," He said to his friends.
"See ya," Matt replied.
Kyle walked across the squishy wet grass and mud towards his cream colored front door.
"Get the mail, also," His mom ordered.
He squished his way up to the mailbox and creaked it open. He stuck his hand inside and pulled out two letters. One was from Kyle's dad's work and addressed to his dad. The other was addressed to Kyle. There was no return address, Kyle felt that he should be the one to read his mail first, so he slipped the mysterious letter into his pocket and ran up the steps to his house holding his dad's letter.
"For Dad," Kyle said to his mom as he walked in the front door-but only after wiping himself with a towel and taking off his shoes. Then he went up to his room and took out the letter. He ripped open the envelope and unfolded the letter tucked inside. It read :
"Did you think you would get away with that? I will never forgive you. You will be safe from me by doing one thing:
I need the amulet. And quickly. If you do not give me that amulet in a week from now, I will hunt you down and take everything you love.
You know who I am."
Kyle was confused. Who had sent this? The only amulet he knew of was his grandmother's. Before she had left Kyle's mom, Jane, his mom's sister, Sera, and their dad, his grandmother gave Sera her amulet. Jane had always wanted that amulet, and they argued for a long time over it. Eventually, Kyle's grandfather said it belonged to Sera. Jane and Sera hadn't spoken in years.
Now this person wanted it? Kyle was considering showing it to his parents, but he knew what would come out of that. They would say, "It's just a joke. One of your friends probably put it in the mailbox earlier as a prank. Nothing to get all excited about." But there always was that small chance that this letter was real. And this letter didn't sound like a prank. Kyle had heard his mom and his dad talking about the amulet recently. His mom had said that some people would pay $5,000 for the amulet. Apparently it was very rare and there were only 3 others in existence. It was obvious why someone would want it.
What was he to do?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He darted through the humid summer night like a cat on the run. He ran up to the woman's house and dropped a letter in the mailbox. Once again he ran down streets and sidewalks. He ran up to the boy's house and again dropped a letter in the mailbox. Then he ran from the boy's house, back to his car, and sped off into the night.
Now all he had to do was wait.
