Amber POV

Sage has dropped Yellow back at Mango's house by the time they reach the mansion.

"I can't wait to show you the gilder we made! It's so much better than the last one."

"I believe it." said Sage, "it should be better because you had someone who knew what he was doing this time."

Amber hopped out of the limousine.

"Oh, come on, Sage, you weren't that bad."

"It's okay to admit it; I'm not a scientist. I'm just glad you made a friend who shares your interests."

That's true. At least I am not that lonely anymore

As they walked into the mansion, she went inside her room.

Now, where can I hide this

She opened her closet and hid her project under her clothes. Just then, her mom came into her room.

"Amber, what are you doing?"

"Oh, you know, just cleaning my room," she said, "Do you need anything?"

"No, I just want to tell you that we have a last-minute request that I think you will enjoy."

"Ooo, what is it?"

"Mr. Denim from the University of Stickville wants me to judge a science contest they're having tomorrow. Would you like to join me?"

"Are you kidding," she said excitedly, "Of course I'll-"

But then it hit her. If she joins her mom tomorrow, she won't be able to participate in the contest.

"What's wrong," her mom asks

"Uh, nothing. I would love to go with you tomorrow."

"Perfect. We'll leave in the afternoon."

As soon as her mom left her room, she plopped on her bed

How am I supposed to participate and judge the science contest at the same time?

She jumped up as an idea came into her mind. She ran out of her room and went into her family's library. She found the phone book of Stickville and called Mango's phone.

I hope this works.

"Hello?"

"Hi, I know you don't know me, but can I speak to Yellow, please."

There was silence for a moment, then

"Hello?"

'"Hi, Yellow!"

"Amber!? How did you get this number?"

"I'm the mayor's daughter; I know everybody's number. Sort of. Ok, I look it up, but Yellow, we might have some trouble with the contest."

"Trouble? Why?"

"Me and my mom are going to be judging the contest tomorrow."

"Oh, sticks, how are you going to show invention?"

"You're going to have to show them, Yellow."

"Me! I don't know how to control it."

"Yes, you do. You helped me build it."

"But you're the one who was testing it. Building it is different from actually knowing the controls."

"I'll teach you."

"Alright, but isn't this contest supposed to be two sticks together? How are you supposed to participate without your mom noticing."

"I can do both. I just need to be quick."

"I don't know if that's a good idea."

"It gonna be fine."

She heard Yellow sigh over the phone

"Ok. See you tomorrow."

"Bye."

As she returned to her room, she wondered if she could pull it off tomorrow.

This has to work. I've worked too hard to stop now.
