"Trust me, this will be the best choice we have ever made."
Groaning, Jisung shifted in his seat, the seventeen hour car ride wasn't a great start to the "Best choice he ever made". Still, he wanted to keep Minho happy, but this seriously wasn't the best way to start a marriage.
"Where are we going again?" Jisung asked.
"Kegley, West Virginia," Minho answered with as much enthusiasm as he had when Jisung had asked the question before. "And when we get there, we'll go visit my aunt Christina. We can stay with her until all of our stuff gets to town, then we'll work on fixing up the hotel."
"Okay..." Jisung muttered, "When will we get there?"
"Just an hour and a half more," Minho replied, yawning.
"You sure you don't want me to drive?" Jisung offered, already knowing the answer.
"For the last time, Sungie, I'm fine. Just go back to sleep," Minho insisted impatiently.
Sighing, Jisung turned to face the window. The landscape was just now brightening with the dawn of the coming sun. He closed his eyes and rested his head on the cool glass, and fell asleep.
...
"Hey Sungie," Minho whispered, tapping his husband's shoulder, "Wake up, we're here."
Jisung sat up and looked out the window. The sun was fully up, and a clock at a nearby bank read 10:25 am. "We're almost at my aunt's house, so I wanted to make sure that you were awake," Minho went on, unprompted.
"Okay." Once again turning to the window and observing the town, he saw houses, banks, and businesses. Minho turned down a small road, and followed it for a few minutes, finally stopping at an old yellow house with rickety shutters and a broken screen door. As soon as the car was parked, Minho hopped out then walked to the other side of the vehicle and opened the door for Jisung, helping him out like the gentleman he was.
Stepping out on wobbly legs, Jisung took in more of the house. Despite being extremely run-down and looking abandoned, it was quite nice. The architecture was quaint and delicate, and the walls were a pastel yellow with white trim. Though now weedy and lacking, the landscaping looked like it could've been beautiful and breathtaking if restored to its original state. Minho walked up a couple of concrete steps to the front porch. Following slowly, Jisung stepped on to the porch, barely missing a hole in the old wood right beneath his feet.
"Are you sure she's still here?" Jisung questioned.
"Positive," Minho reassured him, "She would never part with this house, it's practically a part of her."
"What if she's..." Jisung started, but couldn't dare to finish. He should have more faith in his husband, it was part of their vows, afterall.
As Jisung reached Minho's side, the older opened the screen door and knocked on the whitewash colored door behind it. "Aunt Christina?!" knock, knock, knock "It's me, Minho. Your nephew." He waited a few more seconds, then moved to knock again. Grabbing his hand, Jisung stopped him.
"Maybe she isn't here. Maybe she went to town. Or--" Jisung started.
"Hey! What are you kids doing there!"
Spinning around quickly, Jisung made eye contact with an older woman who was crossing the street. "Is that your aunt?" Jisung asked Minho quietly.
"No, I don't know who that is," he muttered back.
