Just Kiwi

Never had she known how it was to be truly afraid of dying.
So many times she had wished that her life would come to an end, simply because she didn't have to suffer anymore.
Some would say that her desperate wish to die was nothing but a flight, an escape from this harsh reality she was living in, and who knew, maybe that was true.
But who could blame her?
There hadn't been really much left to live for, back then.
But things had changed.
Things were different now.
And as she fell down with dazzling speed, hardly able to breathe, Kiwi realized once again that she didn't want to die.
Not anymore.
Not now she had a family again.

If only she could scream, but she couldn't.
All she could was watch the ground coming closer and closer with a vision blurred with tears.
How was this even fair?
It just didn't make any sense.
Why hadn't she died when she wanted to?
Why had whoever ran destiny decided to bring her back to her meaningless life, only to pull her away when she finally had something to live for?
How could life be this cruel?
What did she do to deserve this?
A muffled sob escaped her lips, and she squinted her eyes.
Oh, god, why...?
Why, oh, why?

...

Five minutes earlier in Karbunkle's lab...

A flash of light, and gone were Corgi and Strella.
Transported back to whatever rathole Limburger had made them crawl out of.
Speaking of that ratchet cheese breath...
Throttle looked around the lab, but the fish was nowhere to be seen.
He must have fled the scene the moment he realized that the mice had won yet another round.
Good riddance, and he wiped his hands clean on his jeans before mounting his black and chrome bike again.
"Well, that takes care of them."
"Too bad Limburger had to come back, though...", Modo sighed, leaning on the handlebars of his precious Lil' Hoss.
Vinnie nodded.
"Yeah..."
Then, his face lit up and he looked at his grey-furred bro with a mischievous sparkle in his red eyes before swinging an arm around his neck.
"Heyhey, wanna trash this place before we leave?"
Modo was about to tell him that for once, he provided an excellent idea, but Throttle beat him to it.
"Nah, forget it, bros."

Vinnie practically deflated like a balloon, and he gave his tan friend one of his finest deadly glares before resting his head in his hands.
"Ah man... You're a buzzkill", he muttered with a frown, clearly not amused.
Throttle shrugged.
"Well, I just figured Limburger had enough for one day... Besides, Kiwi is waiting for us outside, so let's ride out, bros."
As always, their beloved human sidekick was enough to either motivate or cheer Vinnie up, and with loud roaring engines, they jumped through the shattered window.
While they were soaring through the air, Vinnie glanced over his shoulder one last time, only to notice that the building was severely damaged by the monsters, and a smile curled his lips.
Maybe he wasn't allowed to trash the place, but Limburger still had some serious redecorating to do once he had mustered the courage to come out of his current hiding place.
Ha.
Serves him right.

Soon after they landed on the rough asphalt, they heard a loud noise coming from behind them, not only that, but the ground started to tremble underneath their tires as well.
Confused and maybe even mildly alarmed, all three turned their bikes before skidding to a halt.
"HA! It's still going down!", Vinnie cheered happily, clapping his hands like a kid getting a lollipop on the fair, and Throttle and Modo smiled.
They too never grew tired of the sight of that hideous building crumbling to dust, and thus, they opened their visor, intending to enjoy this glorious moment to its fullest.
It was then that Throttle heard something.
Something that didn't seem to match with a building crashing down as it almost sounded like a scream, and he narrowed his eyes behind his glasses as he tried to locate the direction of the sound.

What he saw made his heart almost jump out of his chest, and he pointed up.
"Now just wait a minute... Is that..."
"Kiwi!", Vinnie suddenly cried out, and before his bros could even fully comprehend what was happening here, the white-furred mouse was already gone with the wind.
"No, Vincent, wait! It's too dangerous!", Throttle yelled after him when he realized what Vinnie was about to do, but of course, Vinnie didn't listen.
He probably didn't even hear him, as he tended to get some sort of tunnel vision when it came to Kiwi.
"Shit, Modo, he's never gonna be on time...", he breathed with his eyes peeled on the small black dot that was Kiwi.
The place was about to turn into a complete warzone due to falling debris, and Kiwi...
Well, Kiwi was a long way down already...
