Halo's beauty and her curse were known among nations. Everyone wanted to see her, feel her, touch her, and witness all the chaos she had trapped inside of her. In the eyes of her supporters, she was a gem; sadly they were partially unaware of the hell she was subjected to.
Yet, nobody dared take her place except for her family. Sadly, that's not how this 'power' worked. Many looked the other way when it came to how these types of 'transactions' would affect her. Chaos felt like sudden thick water traveling down her throat. She grew to be cautious around dark liquids.
Her supple skin would be covered with hives every time she had to absorb chaos. She would whimper or scream out in pain as the chaos transferred to her. Some thoughts or memories were too dark to bear.
For days the church would isolate her from this world, and on the days she was allowed out, the world always seemed so exciting and forever changing. Every time she was allowed to step outside the church walls it was a blessing for her.
In times of true loneliness and melancholy, she held onto the words and gifts her family and fiancé gave her. She had to constantly remind herself that soon, she would be free.
She will be 'empty' to make her memories and feel her own emotions. Some days were bearable compared to the other days were she felt beaten down. Constantly questioning if this was the plan that her god had for her.
Halo, unfortunately, didn't know much about herself beyond that point.
She forced herself on her feet as she made it out of the castle. In the tons, people have gathered outside the castle waiting for her ascension. She could feel the numbness in her feet. Her contractions began to intensify as she walked towards the hill. Elysium and Halo held on to each other tightly as the hill grew larger in their view.
Many people cheered for her and wished her well; others screamed in her face, belittling her and her 'gift.' They yelled for her execution and others yelled in her honor. The court protected her as some onlookers threw rotten fruit and others threw flowers her way. The guards were sharp as they protected her. Halo's face was still, but her heart was racing as she could feel her feet crush the crowd's offerings.
Halo focused on the hill as she forced herself to make it up the hill. The three most important people in her life were there to give her strength to hold on. Present by her side as a unite. Yet, the fear was still all the same. She had practiced this very walk and ritual to release the chaos within her. Her small family consisted of her mother, younger sister, and fiancé who guided her through the crowd.
She needed to believe that she was prepared for the release.
As they got closer to the downside of Angel Hill, it became more surreal to her. She was in agony, as she was attempting to stand on her own. The knights and sorcerers guided her to the top of the hill. The court barely touched her as they assisted her. Her mother demanded to accompany her, aware of all the possibilities of being killed during the process.
Her request was only met with aggression from the knights as they tried to isolate her from Halo. With her best efforts, she yelled words of encouragement for her. Underneath, his colossal thick metal suit and helmet Cristobal's husky voice came in through his visor. "Angel Eyes, you put up one hell of a fight, okay?".
Cristobal came into her view from behind as he finished leading the quadrant of knights and sorcerers up the hill. Stopping together they joined in with Halo, everyone breathing heavily trying not to spiral at what could happen today.
He lifted his visor to reveal his strong jawline, full pink pearl-colored lips, and freckled youthful face. Halo grew at ease knowing Cristobal was nearby to protect her. After a failed relationship a beautiful friendship was born. As everyone else got into position he took a moment to speak to her alone.
He whispered, " Focus on your breathing. Take your time. I will be right by your side, Halo."
Cristobal's mesmerizing crimson locks brushed against her face as he placed a kiss on her forehead. Elysium grew jealous as he watched how close he was to her, how he placed his hand on her back, and to take him over the edge was that god-forsaken kiss. It's been only a few years since Halo ended her relationship with Cristobal but Elysium knew he never stopped loving her. As much as he hated his existence he was grateful she had another person to protect her against the chaos. Cristobal reluctantly pulled away and walked towards his position.
Halo slowly took off her velvet robe and placed it on the ground. Gently she got down on her knees and prayed for several moments. She prayed to safely go through the ritual; unbeknownst to herself and others, this would be the hardest thing she would ever do.
In her last moments before the release, she imagined what her life would be after. She thought of the home she would share once again with her family. A smile appeared as she focused on the hopeful thought of a small intimate wedding between Elysium and her. Her smile grew wider at the vision of her family now and the family she could create with Elysium.
She distinctly remembered the first time she heard his name.
Halo met Elysium many summers ago at a secluded waterfall far away from town. The summer days and nights were dry and intense. For weeks no matter what time of day it was they always seemed to meet at the waterfall. They never dared say a word to each other but as winter was coming they found themselves still going to the falls. When the water officially froze over Elysium made his move.
"Hello, my name is Elysium. What is your name?".
"Halo...".
"A name suited for an angel."
He knew who she was before she knew he existed, and yet he fell in love with her. This is one of the many memories she's shared with him that helped her stay alive after all these years.
Elysium was powerless against the chokehold of love Halo made him feel. Halo is supposed to be a hellish gift but she was heaven-sent in his eyes. She was the object of all his desires and he was of hers.
Elysium in Greek mythology is a place where heroes go when they die. She had never thought of herself as a hero, but selfishly, in her mind, she wanted to go there too.
Halo hoped that if she lived, she would be in his arms forever. That everything they've imagined together will be granted.
Stalling, she gathers her long brunette hair and put it up in a ponytail. Tightly, she grabbed her locket one last time and placed a gentle kiss on it. Inside the locket, she carried two portraits, one of her family and one of her fiancé. They will be one of her final thoughts.
When she was training for the release the prime sorcerer advised her it was best to rip off the seal like a bandage if she was too scared. For weeks, Halo underwent harsh training under the coat of darkness in freezing temperatures. They practiced chaos materializing from her eyes and mouth. Bits and bits of it smoothly evaporated into the sky, but the merciless pain she felt through her body was staggering.
One last final time, she locked eyes with her family. This is the version of her she wanted them to remember her by. Through their eyes no words needed to be said, last night per Halo's wishes they said goodbye.
