In a state of confusion, Halo looked around her. They stopped moving towards her. The crows started to create a path for her to mimic a runway. A pathway that would lead her back to the living. At least that's what she gathered from her observation.
She couldn't spend any more time in this world as the more time spent, the more her real body was compromised, making it impossible to come back alive.
She slowly walked away from the opening to take one more final look at the world she would leave behind. The gray clouds and dark colors meant unexpected freedom up here, but down there, it meant solitude and loneliness. Even though she had a small circle of people she could count on, she still at times felt alone. Now, she knew she couldn't live without the people she called home.
Halo turned in the direction of the figures dropping down to her knees, with her head bowed in respect for her past predecessors. Silent tears flooded her eyes. She said, " Thank you...I'm going to make it my mission to be the last one."
A powerful wind swept across the field once more blowing away the shadows. Gently, Halo stood up, turning to face the portal once more.
After inhaling one deep breath she sprinted towards the opening. She willingly went for the black hole, not knowing what her life would be if she made it back. Although she never considered herself to be religious, she took the ultimate leap of faith. Her life as of now had been filled with nothing but absolutes. It'd been a life of pure misery and happiness.
Her body was a void that others used to fill with the chaos that tormented them. Halo felt that her soul was infected by the impurities of the world, but for one moment, if she got lucky, it would be filled with marvels.
As she plummeted towards Earth, she felt the last bits of chaos disappearing. The moment she imagined her body and her soul would reconnect felt tranquil despite the horrors she had been subjected to. Halo was a star returning to Earth. A star that emerged from a black hole.
Genuinely for once, Halo was determined to live for herself. Tormented daily by a prophecy forced upon her as a 'gift,' the world praised her and hated her altogether. Every passing day since the day of her 'coronation', only brought her closer to death. No child should ever have to feel or think about such somber thoughts so profoundly and unprotected. This is the reality that Halo may come back to.
Startling awake, Halo opened her eyes and rapidly sat up. Her breathing was ragged as she attempted to control it. Elysium ran her hands through her tousled hair, trying to calm her down from the small panic she was experiencing. Uma and Flora joined Elysium in their efforts before instructing everyone to take a couple of steps back. Cristobal along with other knights stepped in to build a border around Halo.
Crowds of people were gathered around her and her loved ones. Everyone was in disbelief that she had come back to life. Halo herself was in awe and shocked at this miracle. The blood that dripped from her eyes had disappeared along with the self-inflicted stab wound. The impending doom that weighed on her, crushing her body and soul vanished.
Uma, Elysium, and Flora hugged her and each other tightly as they let out cries of happiness and relief. Everyone watched and, for one moment, understood the hardships that Halo had experienced and sympathized with her. Halo was never able to tell what feelings were her own and what belonged to others. It was ironic to her that the first emotion she felt on her own was bittersweet.
They rejoiced together at the top of the summit as the sun engulfed everyone in its bright yellow halo glory. Halo could finally feel the light. Elysium quickly picked her up and spun her around high in his arms. Uma lightly protested Halo's enthusiasm as her body needed time to recover from the ritual. Her mother's words fell before they could reach her ears. Halo was no longer bound and wanted to celebrate her life.
Elysium held Halo's hand as they danced and paraded back into town. She glowed in the light of her own that day. It was pure in beauty and honesty. The light wasn't white and glowing like she had imagined her whole life. This light that illuminated her was faint in tones of purple and pink. Fitted for someone who was once consumed in darkness.
