It's been a few weeks since I was in the hospital... but I still can't get over the words Alodia said that day... Just what could she be hiding from me. It dawned on me though, I only know the suspects' for the mass kidnapping by last name. And the only thing I am confident that I know Alodia is hiding is the truth of her last name. Even though I am her childhood friend, I don't know anything about her family other than that they're alive and well in Klage Falls, a small country that formed in preparation for the oncoming war. The main thing about it being that it's entirely underground with an artificial sun, and even seasons. The entrance is through a waterfall, hence the name.
Now that I think about it... Alodia's parents fit the bill to be the people in charge of such an operation. Except for one small thing... the timeline. Alodia's parents are only 40, so they're more likely to be heirs to such a thing than founders. If they are the heirs that means... no. I refuse to believe that Alodia has been spying on me all this time, knowing that one day... wait. But she didn't know about my government job? No, when I told her about it she seemed unsurprised... like she knew.
I showed her the documents!!! Oh, damn, I've really messed up now, haven't I? Well, either way, I know a thing or two about forgery, so no biggie. I'll just forge the handwriting and get some plasticy paper and call it a day. Give her a fake, that'll do it. I can even forge some fake plans I'm making and show them to her. Just like mom used to say; "Keep your friends close but your enemies closer, son." I was always suspicious of her family, that's why I got a job where she worked to investigate. But I guess I got attached... well, whatever, good to know we're both waiting for the perfect moment to stab each other in the back. I just wonder who'll get to do it first. After all, it's been nearly a decade of holding our own knives and keeping them a secret.
And if she isn't planning to stab me in the back, or hasn't caught onto me yet, well, she sure has a storm coming for her. This might've not been a part of the plan, but we'll make do. For someone who used to make forgaries as a side gig I sure haven't forged anything for a while. I might be a bit rusty. But hey, whatever.
Now, if I remember, it's this floorboard you lift up. Mhm... well, here's the ink. And the paper... it should be under this one.... Great. Now the hard part, the handwriting. Especially in this case because it's been written in a hurry, very sloppy indeed. Hmm. I'm glad Alodia isn't aware of my forgery business... she'll just think I've been given false documents and information. And I kept most of the documents hidden behind books simply because I haven't reviewed them yet, so she isn't aware of the full extent of the information in my possession. That keeps my cards chested for now.
I wonder just how much her parents have told her, about the operation they're running. I feel like a better word right now would be were, because, well, it seems to have become a dumpster fire over wherever.
I wonder if she knows they're all dead without a burial? That they were experimenting on children? That they were treating humans as machines to do their bidding? Does she know that they knew and will know only pain? Does she know that there's nobody in this realm or the next that will weep for them other than me? Does she know... just how her parents aren't human after showing that little remorse for another human? Does she even know how much pain was caused, how many tears and how much blood was shed? If so, then why does she refuse to do anything about it?
Damn it Alodia, if you love me then tell me where those damned people are. I can only act completely oblivious for so long. Rational thinking will only get me so far, won't it? I love you, but I will never bring myself to admit I'm in love with such a heartless person as you.
So may we never kiss, you son of a devil. I hope our last goodbye is standing on the top of Resentment Peak looking down as the sun sets on the already blood red sky. Looking down at the wreckage of this world, where countless tears were shed and mockingbirds were killed. Where doves don't even dare fly near and the crows flourish with the ravens eating away at the corpses of the past, wallowing away in endless sorrow. And may I come to push you off that peak, well, that depends on how you act going forward. If I do, I'll cry, but I don't think I'll regret much, I probably would've done it all again. Starting from the beginning, when we first met, ready to take a knife to the other's throat.
