"What kind of teas do you have?" Jackson asked the equally shocked barista. I glanced at her and saw her visibly swallow.
"We have black tea, green tea, peppermint, special blends from Yemen and Earl grey" the Barista was finally able to answer.
"What type would you like?" Jackson asked and it took me a minute to realize he was asking me.
"Huh?"
"Tea?" he responded, and I saw his eyes crinkled, and I was almost swooning.
"Just peppermint, a chocolate croissant and a buttered pretzel" I shook myself answered the barista and stepped to the side. That's when I noticed his bodyguard and other members of his team. I collected my order and went to a table to sit. The café was not very crowded, but I knew persons on lunch would enter soon.
I silently watched as Jackson placed an order and then watched as he glanced at me. I smiled and tilted my head wondering why he was here. His concert hall was at least 10 minutes away by car. He approached me and I found myself standing and reaching out my hand,
"Hi Jackson, I never dreamed of meeting you. My name is Meloney, and it is an absolute pleasure to meet you" he took my hand, and I watched as my hand fit perfectly in his.
"It is nice to meet you too" he responded and then gestured to the seat. I sat and started adding sugar to my tea.
"You have a concert today, right?"
"Yes, are you a fan of my music?"
"Oh, definitely. My favorite in terms of feeling is probably 'Blue' but visually I love 'Come Alive'. I also love 'Cruel' and 'Blow' and that song you did with Mili. Of course, I didn't start out with your music I watched Woody Allen's interview and fell in love"
"Uh...in a totally not weird way" I finished softly when I realized I was blathering a mile a minute,
"Thank you, I am happy you appreciate my work" he commented softly.
I chuckled "I really do and I am looking forward to more of your work".
"Thank you, Meloney. Are you from L.A?"
"No, I am Jamaican, I am here for work"
"What kind of work brings you so far?"
"I am a Quality Analyst. I am doing a lecture for my work to ensure our employees are providing the best service to our clients"
"Where do you work?"
"I work for Startek Inc, it is a BPO (Business Process Outsourcing). I am a part of the quality department"
"Do you enjoy the work?"
"Yes, which a lot of people find shocking, but I enjoy doing the work. I am also kind of shocked to be in the type of work. Since I was a child, I always enjoyed sciences and I envisioned myself as a research scientist. It did not work out that way and right now I enjoy what I do"
"What is it like in Jamaica?"
"It's not really something you can explain, you really have to experience it. I can say though, there is a lot of room for improvement"
"Are you going to my concert later?"
"No and I'm sad. I didn't know you had one planned and I wasn't able to get a ticket. I know it will be amazing from what I've seen online."
"Hopefully you get to see one of my shows." he stated and started to stand.
"I plan to, before the end of this year I will see you perform live"
"Looking forward to seeing you"
"I'm sure you won't remember me"
"I'll remember you" he said softly and then he and his team were gone.
