Edmund sat in the hallway of the hospital, his head in his hands. Elizabeth had been hurt badly. That was all he knew. The need to know more and the need to know less angered him. He wanted her safe yet, he also wanted to scream at her for going after a murderous killer alone.
"Edmund. I heard what happened. I'm so sorry" the Commissioner took a seat next to him.
"We...we need to get William and Thomas, they'll be worried about her" He said, wiping his wet cheeks.
"Of course. The lads from Scotland Yard are going to work the case, all you need to do is sleep. Edmund, you've been up for hours" Warren told him gently, but Edmund didn't move "I'll let you know when we know something" he tried again to get Edmund to move or at least sleep.
"I can't... I need to be here if she wakes up" he wiped his face with his hands again, trying to calm himself.
"At least sleep. Please" Warren pleaded and Edmund nodded.
"Commissioner" Constable Neil called out from further down the hallway.
"John do you know what happened?" Edmund asked, rising from his feet, holding John by his shoulders.
"I found her. The blood...the blood-" John pushed Edmund aside as he emptied the contents of his stomach onto the floor.
"How was she when you found her?" Edmund grabbed John by the shoulders again, after he had recovered.
"She was pale, unconscious. She was in pretty bad shape. I'm sorry sir" John said as Edmund released him in shock and anger.
"She can't die. She can't be hurt. She can't. I can't lose her" Edmund rambled.
"You won't, she's strong" Warren grabbed Edmund's shoulders, trying to calm him.
"Edmund" William's voice called out from further down the hallway.
"William. What happened?" Edmund asked him quickly.
"I don't know. I went by her house to collect her some things. Alexander kicked her out after he saw the two of you kissing" William told them.
"What!?" Edmund could feel his anger rising within him.
"Beth wouldn't tell me about it. She told me it was about you and that what Alexander had said was right" William sighed deeply.
"I've ruined her life. All I wanted to do was protect her and now I've failed at everything" Edmund's voice began raising as he tried not to let his anger out. He saw a table and threw it across the hallway.
"Edmund calm yourself. Beth with get through this, she's tougher than she looks" William said sadly "I've seen what she's been through. She comes off as mean or cruel or a princess, but she's not. She's strong. Stronger than all of us I know for sure" he said sadly. Thomas grabbed his shoulder and squeezed it lightly, comforting him.
"She's a good person" Thomas agreed.
"I should've married her when I had the chance" Edmund sat down again and sighed into his hands.
"Yes, you should have. But whether you married her or not, she still would've went after that killer because she's stubborn" William told him.
"All we can do now is hope that she will pull through" Warren told them. Edmund sat back in chair, waiting. Hoping. For some news. Anything that would put his mind at ease or bring her back to him.
