Hey pads,
Do you remember how you got your nickname?
We were in our fourth year. You had been an animangus for a while.
I was going home to my parents for spring break, and you insisted that you come too.
Try as might, I wasn't able to convince my mum to let me bring you, but she absolutely loved dogs, so we made a plan.
You would just have to pretend to be a dog for the entire week. This seemed perfectly logical for two fourteen year olds.
It worked wonderfully. My mother absolutely adored the dog you. It was the beginning of spring, though, and if you remember, you shed EVERYWHERE. Took me months to get all of the dog fur out of my favorite jumper.
I think what absolutely soled Mum on my nameless black dog that I mostly just called puppy or black was how protective you were.
You nearly bit my aunt's fingers off when she started talking about all the scars on my face and how ugly they were. She reached out to touch the long one across the bridge of my nose, and you snapped at her.
Do you know, to this day, she has never talked about my scars again?
My two year old cousin loved you too, only she couldn't say pup and ended up calling you pads. She might have heard us wrong, though. Pup to pads is a bit of a stretch.
I told James the next time we saw each other, and he came up with the name padfoot.
Peter didn't want to be left out, so he suggested we all get nicknames. That's when we officially became the Marauders.
Love Moony
