The elevator door opened.
Before us was a decently sized room, with one desk, two elevators, one fireplace and a door on the other side of the room. There was still no sign of any humans. What are we supposed to do now?
'There's a service bell here, maybe someone'll come if we press it.', mom says. She presses it once and a loud "ding" erupted. Nothing happened. She pressed it again. Still no sign of life. She presses it again, and again, and again, and again..... until it finally broke. I counted 7 presses before the bell gave out.
'Great! Thanks mom! You broke the bell! You're so smart!', Charlie complained. 'Calm down Charlie, your mother was just trying to help-'

'CALM DOWN?'

'DON'T TELL ME TO CALM DOWN! WE'RE STUCK IN A CREEPY HOTEL WITH NO PEOPLE OTHER THAN US AND MOM JUST BROKE SOMETHING THAT WE COULD'VE USED!', Charlie screamed. 'O-okay, let's just... look around here for a bit. We can find some other thing to use, it'll be fine...', dad reassured, but I don't think it really worked. It sounded more like he was reassuring himself rather than us.

We all started looking around the room, except for mom and Emma. They were sitting on the chair in front of the fireplace, to keep Emma comfortable. Dad was standing at the window and checking the drawers that stood in front of it. Charlie was looking at the books on the shelves next to the fireplace, and I crouched underneath the luggage cart that stood next to the desk to check everything that was behind it. After looking inside the drawers for a while, Charlie spoke up. 'There's a lock on this door. Anyone find a key?'
Now that she mentioned it, there is a key hanging on the wall right here with "001" on it. 'Yeah, here.' I said, picking up the key and giving it to Charlie.

She walked towards the door with the key in her hand, holding it up before the lock. Why is she hesitating? Just open the door! 'I-.... I have a bad feeling about this. Are we all sure I should open it?' Charlie asked nervously. Mom and dad both nodded, I shrugged. She didn't look completely convinced yet, but she moved the key towards the lock anyway. She put the key inside the lock and turned it slowly, slightly closing her eyes and moving her face away from the door as it almost opened. We all moved away from the door, I stayed at the left side of the door, dad walked to the right side and mom stood in front of the fireplace shielding Emma away from the door with her body, in case something happened.

Everyone stood still and waited in anticipation as the door opened with a "bleep", turning on a light placed above it. Charlie and Emma both flinched at the noise and backed further away. I didn't even notice that light before it turned on. Where did that sound even come from? I walked towards the dooropening and looked inside the space before me. The room was rectangular and limited in size. It'll probably take me about ten steps to get from here to the other side. It had the same red, checkered carpet, the same brown walls, the same wooden desks, the same yellow lamps... and the same door, except for the fact that this door had no lock and a different number. There were 4 paintings hanging on the walls, all of them equipped with a name tag underneath it. I was the first to walk into the room to see if I could find something in the drawers and the rest followed quickly behind. Mom, dad, Emma and Charlie stood huddled up in the middle of the room, while I was looking around. Is that what they're going to do the entire time? I thought everyone had chosen some sort of entertainment to get through this ridiculous excuse of a vacation except for me, but I guess they changed their mind. Weird. At least I know what I'll be spending my time on for the rest of the week. This vacation proved to be a little less boring that I first anticipated.

While I was opening the drawers and reading the names on the paintings, I found a lighter on top of a random drawer. Why would this be laying around here? I decided to keep it inside my pocket for later use. Another thing that I found odd, was the random noises that occurred at times. The noise of knocking, banging, scraping... it's as if there were humans inside this hotel other than us. Or not.

'Jimmy?', mom said, 'What are you doing? We don't have time to play around, let's just keep moving. Maybe we'll find someone who can help.'
Play around? I'm trying to solve the mystery of this hotel, unlike the rest. I looked at mom, and she silently urged me to go towards the door. What am I, some kind of sacrificial lamb or something? Aren't parents supposed to protect their kids? Instead of offering them to go first to protect themselves? Humans are weird. The things they would do to keep themselves satisfied, doesn't matter who suffers the consequences... as long as they themselves are safe...

'Jimmy? Please open the door honey, we can't keep waiting here for you to stop zoning out.'

Bitch.
