The Greenhouse Hotel.

Located 5 miles next to an abandoned town called Calico in California. Famous for its two-story library, luxurious greenhouse and for its large number of doors. It is, however, slowly but certainly losing its popularity and guests, nearing the threat of having to close down. It will happen eventually, there's no denying. Out of all the amazing hotels my mom and dad could have chosen, they picked this one. Not a hotel housing a spa or a gym, but this one, with a lot of doors. Not a hotel with a pool or a buffet, but this one, with less guests than beds and a two-story library filled with outdated books. Funny how it is literally impossible for my parents to think like a normal adult would, and not book 6 nights at an empty, abandoned hotel. What are we even going to do there? I'm sure I could find something to keep myself busy with, maybe check out the library. What Emma and Charlie will be doing in the hotel is something I am not able to predict. Can't wait for them to start moaning about how bored they are. Should have told mom and dad about that earlier, maybe we could have evaded all of this.

'We're almost there, kids! Are you all excited?', dad asked. I don't understand what he's so pumped about, this will be the most boring vacation ever. 'Ugh, why are we even here? I was supposed to go to Jessica's party today before you told me we were going to this stupid hotel!'. Charlie said, while side-eyeing dad heavily. 'Come on now Charlie, it's gonna be fun! You know that this place holds the World Record for most doors in a hotel, right? That's cool isn't it?'

Oh poor mom, if only she knew the definition of the word "cool".

'I can't believe this, who gives a fuck about some doors? No one in this boring family wants to go to some boring old hotel except for you and dad!', Charlie annoyingly yelled with her arms crossed, causing Emma to start crying at the harsh language. 'Charlie! No swearing! We didn't raise you like this!', dad responded. 'I'm sixteen, dad, deal with it!"

Another unnecessary conversation. Charlie yelled three times, mom tried to use youthful language once, dad yelled at Charlie once and Emma started crying once. These numbers will rapidly pile up the more we keep going. Oh wait, that's something I can keep myself busy with so I don't get bored. I can try to count everything that's happening around me. I don't think I'll be able to keep that up though, or maybe...

'Jimmy? Can you please try to console your little sister, she's clearly upset.'

I've been asked to clean up their mess once now. Great. Can't wait for that to happen again.

'Oh look, there it is! We're here everyone!', mom announced. Looking out of the car window, through the trees, was a tall and old looking building with a lot of windows. The walls had a dirty brown color and the windows had purple curtains behind them. The two plants that stood outside the entrance were sloppy and drowning, because of the constant storm that was going on. The hotel definitely did not have a very welcoming image. It looked so... empty.

After my dad parked the car outside the entrance and we all ran inside to avoid getting wet from the storm, we found ourselves in the lobby. It looked like the stereotypical hotel lobby that you see in movies. Eight elevators facing eachother, one fireplace with a cozy chair in front of it and a red, moist carpet on the floor. The only obvious thing that this hotel was missing, was people. There was no sign of employees, no cleaners, no guests, the lobby was entirely empty. There were no people for me to count. The only sign of life in the hotel was coming from us.

'Okay... so, shall we take an elevator upstairs? Maybe the check-in is there', mom suggests. 'Which one do we take, though?', Charlie responds with her usual sass. 'I'm sure it doesn't make a difference, let's just take this one.', mom says, gesturing towards the closest elevator on the right side.

We all went inside with our suitcases, and, surprisingly, the elevator started moving without any of us having to click a button. 'Odd..', I said. A catchy tune started playing from an unknown source. We all subconsciously started bobbing our heads with the music, no one speaking a word. After counting 39 seconds, the elevator came to a sudden halt and the tune stopped playing with a "ding". The elevator doors opened.

Our vacation had officially started.
