Three years prior to the present, a dorm room with three beds – one bunk bed and one single bed – is empty and dark. There is the sound of a key unlocking the door, and when it opens, a young guy looks in apprehensively.

Mew (to his parents off-screen):

This is the room.

Mew walks in with two suitcases and a backpack. His parents follow. Mew's mother is a good-looking woman wearing designer clothes. Mew's father is also handsome and dressed well. Mew's parents frown as they look around the room.

Mew puts his suitcase on the single bed.

Mrs. Witsarut (to her husband as she looks around the room):

I don't think this is going to work.

Mew rolls his eyes and sighs.

Mr. Witsarut (to his wife):

I can call the Dean's office and see about getting Mew a single room in one of the newer buildings.

Mew (without looking at his parents):

I don't want a single room. I asked for a room with roommates.

Mr. Witsarut:

Why you did that, I don't know. We can afford to put you in a single room, son.

Mew (opens his backpack and avoids his parents' eyes):

I want roommates.

Mrs. Witsarut (in a sing-song voice):

Oh, my baby! If you were afraid of living alone, you should have stayed in Phatthaya with us!

Mew (annoyed):

I'm not afraid of being alone.

Mr. Wirsarut:

Why? Who knows what kind of animals may be your roommates? (Mr. Wirsarut shakes his head with a frown and takes his cell phone out of his pocket.) I'm going to call the dean and get you a better room.

Mrs. Wirsarut:

Yes, yes! Call him.

Mew:

Please don't call him. (He crosses his arm on his chest and stares at his parents with an annoyed face). We've already been through this. I picked this room. I want roommates. End of discussion, please.
