Kai was definitely nervous now that they didn't have sight of Bee and their radios were down. He stood off to the side, looking around, just waiting for Ro to show her face. Kai needed to know that his girlfriend was okay. This part of the mission was his least favorite part because he didn't know what was happening or what was going to happen.
Ro and Olive were panting as they ran across the desert. As they came to a stop for a breather, they saw that the NEST team popped more flares to find their exact location. Ro was thankful that Lennox thought ahead and made sure that the girls knew where they were headed. "It's just a couple of miles." Ro said.
"A couple, she says. In the Egyptian heat, in August." Olive panted, hands on her knees. "You good up there, Wheelie?"
"I'm just fine." He said happily.
"Let's go." Ro took Olive's hand again, pulling her along down the pile of sand. Ro and Olive continued to run through the villages that were shattered around. Ro kept her head down and covered, trying not to bring too much attention to herself, but it was pretty obvious something was going on.
Ro and Olive slowed a little bit, but Ro knew where they were headed. "We still got a mile to go."
"This is worse than high school and the mile test." Olive said as they made it down the dune. They used the ruins as a cover in case the Decepticons could see them from above. Ro looked around before grabbing Olive and pushing her forward. Her hands were on her shoulders, pushing her towards the other side of the ruins.
"We've got incoming!" A soldier shouted. Missiles started shooting in the direction that Ro and Olive would be coming from. Kai looked up to the sky to see who was firing those missiles.
Ro and Olive heard the explosions above their heads. They kept themselves lower to the ground as they made it through the ruins quickly and carefully. Ro looked over her shoulder to see if she could see Starscream, but all she could see was the flying missiles that were aimed towards the soldiers protecting Optimus.
"We got a whole lot of fight coming our way." Lennox said.
"You don't say." Kai said, peering around the building.
"How many?"
"About thirteen of 'em."
"This ain't good. This ain't good." Epps said. Kai had to agree with Epps – this was more than what they dealt with in Mission City or even for what they did for NEST over the past eight months. "We're 'bout to get our asses whupped." Epps added.
Kai got into position with the rest of the soldiers, waiting for Lennox's orders. "All right, those Decepticons are looking for Rosalind. Whatever she has, she thinks it'll bring Optimus back to life, so our mission is to find her and get her to Optimus." Kai nodded in agreement with Lennox. "All right, we're gonna draw fire from the left flank. I need a scout team."
