Cyberchase: Heart Attack

Chapter 2

For Inez, everything seemed on slow motion. They had been enjoying a nice family night, now her husband was lying unconscious on the floor.

" Matt?? What's going on??" Asked a paniced Inez. Everybody saw what had happened, but was unsure what to do. Bob had seen this before, and was instantly worried. " i've seen this before. We need to get 911 on the phone... NOW!. He's having a Heart Attack. If we don't act fast, he won't make it" said a worried Bob. Is there anything you can do until paramedics get here??" Asked Inez. " i know CPR, that should help" replied Bob.

Bob started CPR, and Jackie called 911. Inez was frozen with fear, and just hoped everything would be fine.
Within minutes an ambulance was on the sight. " ok, this is definitely a heart attack, has anybody attempted CPR?" Asked the paramedic. " i did, i am a police officer" said Bob. " good, let's get an oxegyn mask on him, and get him to the hospital fast. Is anybody here, related to this guy?" Asked the paramedic. " he's my husband" replied Inez. " would you like to ride with him to the hospital?" Asked the paramedic. " can you take care of the kids?" Asked Inez. " sure" replied Jackie.

One ambulance ride later:

Inez was very worried. " i warned him about this earlier, but i didn't think it would actually happen" frowned Inez.
" don't worry, we'll do everything we can" the paramedic reassured. 
All Inez could do was wait. " wow, 7 years, and 3 kids later, and i might be parenting alone" Inez sadly thought.

A few hours later the doctor came out to get her. " is my husband going to be ok?" Asked  a hopeful Inez. " luckily he had a middle range Heart Attack. If it had been a severe Heart Attack, we would be having a different conversation. He'll recover, but right now we have him heavily sedated. You can talk to him, but he probably won't answer until he's not sedated" replied the doctor.

" can i see him now?" Asked Inez. " sure, follow me" replied the doctor.
Once Inez was reunited with Matt, she felt better. " you feeling ok?" Asked Inez. Matt smiled and managed to say" well, i'm alive,so i guess i'm ok". " don't strain yourself, i'm just glad you'll be ok. the boys will still have you in their lives, and i'd miss you if you didn't make it" smiled Inez. " even the stuff that annoys you?" Asked Matt. " yup, i'd miss everything" smiled Inez.

Soon, the doctor came in. " how's it going in here?" He asked. " i'm just happy he'll be ok. We have 3 boys and he's great with them. Junior idolizes his daddy, and one of the twins' first word was daddy" replied Inez. " i'm glad those kids won't lose their daddy. Lots of times i have to deliver bad news for these situations, and it feels good to give good news for once" smiled the doctor.

" i'll stick around until he falls asleep, then i'll slip out and head home" said Inez. " you won't need to do that. I'll arrange for you to stick around all night if you feel you need to" replied the doctor. " i guess i could do that, incase something goes wrong" agreed Inez. The doctor smiled as he left the room. He said to a nearby nurse " now there's a heartwarming sight. This man had an almost fatal heart attack, and his wife won't leave his side until she knows for sure he'll be ok. That shows they truly care about eachother". " it's nice to see that reaction. Sometimes we get cases where nobody cares unless they get something when the person dies" replied the nurse. " seeing things like people truly caring makes me remember why i became a doctor" he smiled.

Meanwhile in Matt's hospital room:

Inez handed Matt some paper and a pen. " just write what you want to say on the paper. You're heavily drugged and weak from the heart attack. Don't use your voice unless you feel like it" she explained. Matt smiled at Inez.
" ok, what do you feel like?" Asked Inez. Matt wrote on the paper " weak and tired". " do you need me to do anything to help you get comfortable?" Asked Inez. " i'm starting to doze off, can you hold my hand until i'm asleep?" Wrote Matt.
" i'll be here all night, and of course i can" smiled Inez. " thanks, i love you" wrote Matt. " i love you to" smiled Inez.

She gripped Matt's hand and sat down. Matt looked like he would fall asleep at any time. Eventually he started snoring. Inez took a picture to send to Jackie. " any news?" Asked Jackie. " doctor says he'll be fine. It was a moderate heart attack, and if it was a severe one he would not be alive right now. He just fell asleep 30 seconds ago" replied Inez. "  that's good news, the kids are fine. Junior was curious, but i told him that his daddy took a nap, that only the hospital can wake him up from" texted Jackie. " yeah, he should accept that for now. How are the twins doing?" Asked Inez. " they're showing Franklin how they stick their feet in their mouths" replied Jackie. " ok, make sure to check for bugs in Junior's pockets, and Ernest won't slobber when sleeping, but Leroy does. Also Ernest is a cuddler, so Franklin better like others on top of, or next to him at night" texted Inez

" i'll write that down. Anything i shouldn't feed them?" Asked Jackie. "  the twins should not have sugar after 7:00, and Junior doesn't digest avacadoes very well. He'll be gassy but that'll be it. I would also caution against anything with lots of sugar after 8:00pm" replied Inez
" any movies they shouldn't watch?" Asked Jackie. " nothing involving lots of blood, loss of limb , or decapitation" replied Inez. " ok, what are you gonna do while Matt is sleeping?" Asked Jackie. After i get some food, i'll just sit here until i fall asleep" replied Inez.
" well, i'll send you pictures of the kids" texted Jackie. " ok, tell them i love them and give them a hug for me" replied Inez. " i will" texted Jackie.

A few hours later it was bedtime for the kids.

" will Daddy be better soon?" Asked Junior. " i'm sure he will" smiled Jackie. " did you talk to Mommy?" Asked Junior. " i did, and she sent me a picture of your dad sleeping" smiled Jackie. " can i see it?" Asked Junior. " ok, but after that you need to get in your sleeping bag" replied Jackie. Junior agreed, and Jackie showed him the picture. " i feel better" smiled Junior. " your mom asked me to give you a hug" said Jackie. " ok, did she say anything else?" Asked Junior. " just that she loves you" replied Jackie. Junior smiled and got into his sleeping bag on Laura's bedroom floor. " don't worry, i haven't forgot you Laura. Who's ready for a hug and a tickle?" Smiled Jackie. " me" smiled Laura. After Laura's hug and tickle, Jackie checked on the babies.
Franklin was in his typical position, on his belly, with his fingers in his mouth. Ernest was  just on his belly, and Leroy was the opposite of Ernest, on his back, and slobbering. Jackie covered them in a very large blanket and left the room.

Meanwhile at the hospital, Inez was reading. " who knew i could finish a whole dictionary in a hospital?" She thought to herself. Inez decided to check if Matt was starting to wake up before she tried to get a few hours of sleep. He grunted a little bit, but that was it. She walked outside the room to leave a wakeup call if Matt woke up. The nurse said she'd make a note. After walking back into the room, Inez decided to try and sleep.
