I get a call from Holly.
"Gwenny! How was your shift last night?"
She giggles.
"Your shift with Mike!"
I think back to last night's events. There is no way Holly would believe anything I say about animatronics trying to kill me and honestly, I don't want to talk about it.
"Uh, yeah it was... It was good."
"Just good? But Mike was there!"
Holly teases me.
"Holly you are the only 23-year-old I know that still teases her best friend about their love lives!"
"But it's fun!"
"I've only been working with him for a few days."
I roll my eyes.
"So? That's doesn't mean you can't bond and get closer. You deserve a good boyfriend; Lucas was the worst."
She was right. Lucas, my ex-boyfriend was horrible, and he was nothing but manipulative. He was controlling, a vile man that took pride in deceiving people. When Holly first met him she instantly knew he was a bad person but I dismissed her concerns. I wish I listened to her though, it would have saved me so much pain and time. Holly and I constantly argued about him and it got to a point where Lucas nearly tricked me into cutting her off but I knew then that he really was a bad person and I am forever in Hollys debt for that. I look at the time on the wall clock, 4:25 PM. I need sleep.
"Yeah, yeah I know. Look Holly I got to go but I'll talk to you soon 'Kay?"
"Okay Gwenny. Talk soon, buh-bye".
Tonight, I bring my blanket and fuzzy jacket with me to work again, along with some other things like snacks for Mike and I and eye drops in case our eyes get sore from looking at the monitors.
Mike isn't here yet but there is no way I'm going inside alone, not after yesterday so I grab my blanket and snack bag and walk to the pizzeria's main entrance. I lay my things down before wrapping the blanket around me and sit under a light in the covered entrance. It's colder then yesterday so I'm shivering, and it begins to snow. The snow is beautiful, it's lit up by the singular yellow streetlamp in the parking lot and I feel like I'm in some sort of forgotten Christmas movie.
Mike arrives and pulls into a car space before he steps out of his car.
"You look like a homeless person!"
He shouts across the car park.
I stand up, still with the blue stary blanket around me.
"Thanks!"
I yell back.
He looks at my bag of goodies on the floor.
"What's in the bag?"
"Snacks and eye drops, for when we get hungry and our eyes get sore. Smart right?"
I am very proud of myself for thinking to bring these two things. Mike unlocks the door and steps in but I'm hesitant. He notices this.
"You okay?"
I nod but still don't move. He holds his arm out to which I gladly accept, walking across into the pizzeria. Both our torches light up the dining area and I look at the stages, all the animatronics are still inside. I sigh in relief, maybe yesterday was just a strange day. We enter the office and do our routine, switch on the breaker, turn on the monitors and sit in the swivel chairs. From the outside this job seems like a piece of cake but in reality, the piece of cake is actually very mouldy and covered in dirt.
