I miss them. My parents. They're always trying to take care of us, me and my brother sometimes too much. But I loved them for it.
I'm coming home after being away for so long, six years to be exact. I can't wait.
I'm now driving from New York to my hometown Wingory a small suburban town. We have two highschool's, and 1 university which I went to for 2 years and 1 huge Walmart.
It's a really small town.
I've just finished my masters in Computer Engineering, which, you know only took me about 8 years. But I figure I n deserve a break for a while so I decided I'm staying home for around 5 to 6 months. I also work as a junior executive assistant at YouTube, which to be honest is pretty cool.
I pulled the window down, placed my elbow on it and my hand on my head. A cool breeze made my long brown hair wip around me.
I slowed down on a stop sign, I just entered the sleeping town. It's around 3 am. You could hear a cat crying, for some reason to me it sounds like a baby crying.
I shivered at that thought.
I drove up my street, and parked at the driveway of my childhood home. I opened the back and liftd the suitcase with both hands. With alot of struggle I got it on the ground. Bag in hand, I opened the door with a key that was under the welcome mat. Cliché, I know.
I smiled at that. I closed the door.
Making as little noise as possible, I carried the heavy suitcase, I climbed up the stairs, which if I remember correctly, were always squeaky. On the last steps I stepped on a very loud squeaking board.
I hold my breath. I count one Mississippi then two Mississippi. No one moved, so I go up and right into my room.
I let out a long sigh. I take off my backpack and place it next to the suitcase. I close the door, gingerly. And sit down on the bed. I can't see anything, I didn't turn on the lights. I wait for my eyes to get adjusted to the dark and look around.
I let my parents use my room sometimes when they have a lot of guests. It's was bare now thank God. I didn't tell my parents I'm coming home.
I rubbed my temples, I need to sleep, I sniffed my collar, I wrinkled my nose. And apparently shower.Ugh, I forgot to close the curtains last night, was my first thought.
I rolled away from the blazing sun and tried to go back to sleep, after a moment I sat up. I'm already up, I can't go back to sleep thanks to the stupid light. I look around for my phone. It's on the floor faced down. I pick it up and turn it on. It reads 1:23pm. My hand falls back on the bed, I sit there for 15 minutes not wanting to move it eventually force myself to get up.
Sometime I wonder how I went to all my classes, I thought smiling to myself.I lazed about the whole day, had breakfast with some TV. I then called a few good friends back in Manhattan.
I didn't have time to laze about back at university so this felt so good to not worry about anything and to just chill for a while.I was going through some emails, it's around 6 in the evening, and my brother still hasn't come home, but it's the mum and came back home. I heard them arguing about something, shuffling around.
I closed everything and shut down my laptop. I got of the bed ran down the stairs, I haven't seen them for so long
'You guys are finally home, oh my god!' I yelled I got downstairs, my parents came out of the kitchen, mum ran up to me and gave me hug
'Sweetie youre home' I nodded as if to tell her 'well yeah obviously'
I pulled myself out of my mum embrace and hugged my dad. I love my dad, you could call me a daddy's girl. He was there every time I needed him, mum was a bit jealous back when I was young because of the attention I would give my dad and not her. I don't know why, but I was never close to my mum.
When we all settled down a bit, mum ushered us into the living room and brought some tea. I'm a tea fanatic, if that's even such a thing, some people drink beer to calm down, me, I drink tea. And Starbucks.
'Why didn't you wake us up this morning when you came in?' Dad asked, taking a biscuit from a plate.
I took a small sip 'I didn't want to bother you guys and I was really tired from driving, I crashed when I saw the bed'
I shrugged with a small smile.
'I'm just glad you're home, sweetie' dad nodded
Mum squeezed my shoulder before sitting down next to me.
We talked about their work, dad is a history professor at the community college and mum was the dean there. That's how they met, mum was at first an English professor when dad came to work there when the old dean retired she got promoted. Its actually a really boring story, when I think of how it should go I think Spy Kids parent's. I know I'm a 25 year old woman who still likes kids shows. I never said I was perfect.
'Hey, where's Jayden? I have sent seen him all day, is he sleeping over at Blake's house?' Mum and dad looked at each other for a second before looking away really fast.
'Um..yeah..uh..he..he said he'll be staying over at a friends house, I think he'll be staying there for a few days.' Mum said looking anywhere but at me. I frowned.
'At Blake's?' Dad shook his head.
'He's a friend he met at the animal shelter he's been volunteering at'
Something is going on, what are they hiding? Did something happen to Jayden?I nodded, ' you guys are hiding something what is it?'
Mum head snapped back, her eyes widened.
'Wh..why do you think that?'
Dad stared at the clean carpet as if it was the most interesting thing.
I place my half empty cup at the table, and leaned forward.
'Stop it. I know you guys are hiding something and I want to know what it is. Whats wrong? What happened to Jayden? Is something wrong with him?'
Mum snorted. Dad looked at her, he looked so defeated. But they didnt say anything. I stood up and started pacing
'Please...mum dad.. What's going on?' I stopped in front of them.
Dad looked away,so I sat kneeled in front of him my hands on his knees.
'Dad?' He sagged his shoulders.
'He's gone.' I frowned
'What?' Mum sniffed.
'We kicked him out, he wouldn't listen...' Mum sobbed, she hugged my dads arm and looked at me teary eyed. 'Why wouldn't hew listen?' She covered her face in my dads arm. My dad pulled her to him
'I don't understand why did you guys kick him out?' I'm so confused. What are they talking about?
'He said...he said he was g ggay' dad pulled her tighter. She didn't say anything else. It's not like I didnt see the whole picture yet. I know what happened. He came out to them thinking they'll love him even if he was gay and they'll all laugh about it later around the dinner table. But that's not what happened my parents kicked him out even though they clearly love him, my baby brother is out there somewhere and I've no idea if he's OK or not. I pulled my hand away from my dad and stood up.
He looked up to me, but my eyes were blank. But he still could tell I was disappointed.
'So let me get this straight, he came to you with something this big, in trust, and told you he was gay. And instead of telling that's its OK and it doesn't make you love him any less, you both agreed to throw him out and now for all we know he could be sex traffiked or raped and lying in a ditch somewhere?' I said with no emotion. Looking at the people who I respected and loved. Mum cried even harder.
My dad stood up ' now wait a minute, we love our son but if he decided to take that road then... It's his choice and we made our choice' he said determinedly. He looked so stubborn.
I never thought my parents could just turn their backs at us like that. Why would they do that?
'OK I get it. When you turn your back on one child, you should be known you lose the other one as well' my mum stood up slowly, tears running down her face her make up a mess and her eyes swelling
'No.'
I turn around and climbed up the stairs to pack my bags. Thank God I didn't unpack much.Hey everyone, thank you for clicking on my story. I would love it if you all voted, shared and commented
