Working as a guide in Carmona had great benefits, the best of them all was knowing about secret places in the city. The narrow path through the sunflowers up to that beautiful hill where we could see the entire field was one of them.
The way his eyes widened when I showed him the way was the most precious thing I have ever seen, so much that my smile was looking for a way to get bigger against my cheeks, which made it start hurting. I didn't care.
I was walking just a little bit ahead of him, leading the way, and that's when I realized I wasn't the only one holding onto the good feeling it brought us. Since the moment I impulsively took his hand on mine, which was a huge surprise for me as well, he never let go of it. I wasn't planning on doing it, either.
This sunflower field was one of the things I saw the most living and working here, but it's impressive how it never ceases to be magic and touch my heart. What my eyes were witnessing at that moment, though, was even more touching.
Taehyung-ssi was observing everything — the blue sky, the few white clouds passively moving, the little birds and bees who came to say "hi", the flowers that were now completely surrounding us since we were already halfway uphill... I think he didn't even notice I was walking backward with our arms outstretched, fingers still tied around each other, just to watch him.
"How you like it so far?" that was the first time he looked at me since we got here. His cheeks were red.
"Hyung, this is... Amazing." I was happy to see that adorable boxy smile as we were now walking side to side.
"We're dropping honorifics, now? Vale, it's about time!" I laughed, but he seemed kinda embarrassed, so I made it clear: "We don't need it anymore".
I remember coming to sit under this big tree and observe Carmona and the gigantic field a lot when I moved here and wondered why I was always the only one here until I understood the walking up here was kinda rough. The view was worth the tiredness, and I was glad Taehyung felt the same.
"I think this is the most beautiful place I've ever seen! You're so lucky to live here." he said holding his camera to snap a couple of pictures of the yellow flowers ahead of us and the busy historical city behind us... And some of me.
"Ah, Taehyung-ssi... That's not fair, I wasn't ready."
He came closer to me, his sweet and shy perfume imposing its presence, becoming now my favorite scent.
"I thought we'd drop honorifics," he side-eyed me, making me laugh a little, and pointed the camera to us. "now smile!"
That was not the only picture we took together.
There were ridiculous and exaggerating posing, peace and heart signs, smile, pouting. Pictures of the fruits, desserts, the Serranito carefully made by me, and the wine we spent the afternoon drinking. Then there was laughing, talking... And a kiss.
Yes, I kissed him. But the best part was that it was reciprocated. He kissed me back.
We had just finished the bottle of wine and, knowing he studied Art History, I asked him who was his favorite painter. Watching him talking about Vincent Van Gogh so excitedly was a sight to see. He knew every little detail about that man's life and career, it was easy to see the admiration shining in his eyes.
Taehyung, for sure, was one of the most handsome men I've ever laid my eyes on but getting to know him better, seeing him become more and more comfortable with me to the point we started talking about our family and childhood, made my heart almost burst in adoration and I felt desperate to show that. So I kissed him.
We were sitting next to each other, so it was easy for my hand to reach out and touch the soft skin of his face and lead his head to me, where my lips could find his. I was silky, as I imagined to be, and the taste of the grapes we were eating felt good.
The kiss was calm and surprisingly easy like we were used to it. His large hand on my slim shoulder was also familiar, so we just stayed like that, with our lips together finding new ways to say what words failed to.
"Today is my last day here." he whispered after some time, his eyes still closed. Even his eyelashes were beautiful. This is crazy.
"It's not the last time we're going to see each other, though."
I was moving back to Seoul, after all.
