On the day that Sienna was late meeting Magdalena for their walk to school, she had a good reason for her lateness. She was walking back from the daycare pushing a not empty stroller with Emmie Bell on board. She was cussing Damien out loud as she walked.
"That no good son-of-a bitch. That sorry sack of dog poop, two-bit hood. Sorry baby, I'm sorry." She was about to cry. "You don't deserve this." She stopped to make sure the baby was covered up, it was cold. "Not yet seven months old, and already kicked out of daycare. Ridiculous. I am sorry baby girl. I will make this up to you. "
Sienna, already a week behind on payment, thanks to no-show Damien, had gone to the daycare that morning hoping she could slide Emmie Bell on in and get past the director. No luck. The director was waiting on her. "I'm sorry, but you're already a week behind. I'd like to help you out, but I'm running a business here, and our policy is no credit."
Sienna was embarrassed, but she had a plan. She was just going to take the baby to school with her and go talk to the counselor, Miss Amy. Miss Amy was always asking her how she could help. "Well, I got a doozy of a problem for you to solve this morning, Miss Amy," she said as she headed up the hill on Renfro Street. "And the problem weighs 17 pounds and cries half the night." Sienna looked down at Emmie Bell. "Sorry baby. This is not your fault."
A car was following close behind. It was still dark so Sienna could see the headlights approaching from behind. The car slowed. Probably looking at my ass, thought Sienna, and me pushing a baby stroller up a hill, in the dark, and it is freezing cold outside.
Unbelievable.
Sienna turned to look over her shoulder just in time to see the car gun its engine, hop the curve and come straight for her. She only had time to push the stroller to the right and hold her left arm out in a vain effort to keep a 4,000 pound car from running over her baby. The car hit her behind her knees and knocked her and baby Emmie Bell and a stroller down a steep, forty foot embankment.
"Payback is a bitch. Bitch," Randall Michael Wall said out the window as he drove off. He wanted to go by Hardees and get a biscuit and a cup of coffee. Then, he was going to go back to the house, get a shower, and go on an errand. He needed to pick up something for the boss, and then let him know that Randall Michael Wall was alive and well and ready to get back to work.
