Hope's Backstory

In the center of Empathverse, there's a small world.

In the enter of that world, there is a tree.

But not just any tree.

The Tree.

The Tree of Feelings.

An almost exactly replica of the Tree of Feelings in the original Multiverse.

Surrounded by this Tree, by this world, are hundreds of other worlds, some big, some small, some light, some dark, some Positive, and some Negative. If a world lies on the Positive side of the Tree, it's a Positive world, and vise versa for the Negative side.

This Tree has two Guardians who keep the Tree safe from harm, as if the Tree dies, anyone who's soul is linked to the Tree will die. The Guardians are Hope, the embodiment of Positivity, and the Guardian of the Positive side of the tree. His brother, Despair, is the embodiment of Negativity, and the Guardian of the Negative side.

I'm Hope. A short skeleton with a thick green scarf, a light green vest, vibrant green eyes, and a headband that's too big for my head and usually falls off.

And my brother is Despair, who's the complete opposite of me, but I love him anyway. He's also short, though he's taller than me, and he has a black vest with blue wrist cuffs, dark blue eyes, oversized blue tennis shoes that he mostly leaves untied, and a headband that also is too big for him. It usually tilts over his left eye socket in an adorable way. He's like... The insecure, taller version of me! Kinda.

We don't do much as Guardians. The townsfolk are very nice! I have a friend, her name is Charlotte, and she's very kind to me and Despair. She's the only villager Despair actually likes.

"Hi, Despair!" I bound up to the Tree, my scarf waving in the wind. My brother is currently sitting in the roots of the Tree on the Negative side, as he usually does, and is reading.

"Hey, Hope." He gives me a small wave, not looking up from his book.

"How's that crack doing?" I ask, taking out some bandages from my pocket.

"It's fine." He says.

Despair came back from visiting the village one day with two cracks in his skull. I asked him where he got them, and he said he slipped on the rocks near the pond.

"You need to be careful." I had told him. "You could seriously hurt yourself."

He had told me he was alright, and that they just needed bandaging. Since then, I've been a little... Overprotective. When he goes into the village, I stay with him.

"Here." I hand him the bandages, and he sets his book down. He unwraps the old bandages and applies the new ones.

"Thanks."

"Charlotte asked how you were doing." I sit beside him, feeling the chill of the Negative side of the Tree.

"Tell her I said hi next time you go." He says.

"You could say hi to her yourself." I look at him, but he won't look at me. I tilt the book down, and he sighs, then looks up at me. "It's not like the villagers are going to hurt you! They love you!"

"......Yeah, I know." He looks away, pulling his book closer to him.

I sigh and pat his knee. "Just think about it, ok? I'm going to see Rain and Storm!"

"...Alright."

I give him a wave, and then I run into the village. Clouds drift across the sky, threatening to rain. I should borrow some blankets from Charlotte just in case.
