Maddie's POV
After the Hobbit was over we all went to my house to start training. Mack is to watch because she's the mate of a beta and I have a feeling that the moon goddess is planning something special. I looked in the mirror at Braydon's mark on my shoulder for the millionth time. I couldn't wipe the stupid grin of my face. The mark was a full moon with a ribbon wrapped loosely around it. On the ribbon was Braydon's name and under that was Brior's name. Behind the moon was an Alpha head. The whole mark was crimson and black with the bright moon. Braydon's was similar but the alpha head had a crown on it. And his was blue and black. I looked up to my face and frowned. I pulled my hair up into a tall pony tail washed, my face, and went downstairs. Braydon was sitting on the couch in black sweat pants and a black tank top. I grabbed his hand and pulled him up. He fell against me and wrapped his arms around my waist.
"You're so beautiful." He whispered. He leaned closer and gently placed his lips over mine. I put my hands on his waist and pulled his hips against mine.
"I love you." I told him. And I did. I don't know how I considered myself alive before I met him. He wrapped his hands in my pony tail and playfully tugged on it. He kissed me again but this time it was fiercer. I deepened the kiss and pushed him down on the couch, mom was out back at the training grounds already so I didn't have to worry about her. Braydon pushed my shirt upward, running his hands along my stomach. He pushed my shirt up and over my head while I adjusted my position so I was straddling his waist.
"Hey Maddie, Braydon? You guys are twenty-" Brooke stood in the doorway with her mouth hanging open. I pulled my tank back on and sat on the couch leaning against Braydon.
"Yeah?" I said politely. She looked at me with a flushed face.
"Your twenty minutes late for training. Your alpha, you lead. We need you Maddie." She explained slowly. Ohhh shit I forgot about training. I nodded frantically and got up, standing next to Braydon, hand in hand. We walked out and back to the training ground. I lined the pack up in order by rank. With quick, swift movements I motioned, one by one, for the ranks to form. I formed last in the alpha section. I started trotting to the woods.
"Okay guys! We're going to show you the borders of our land. Make sure you check every scent! Don't miss anything."
Willow shouted at the pack. Good wolf I cooed. About five minutes into the woods I caught about 50 different rouge scents. I sent the lower rank wolves with a few higher ranks back to protect the town. Then I went leading the search party straight for the rouges. When we got there a group of Vampire Trackers attacked from behind the rouges. The rouges attacked seconds after they did. The next thing I know I'm in battle with two vampires and three wolves. Now I'm glad I sent Braydon back in the other group. Mom jumps in beside me and fends off half the group while I get the rest. I blacked out I think. All I can think about is finishing battle and getting back home with my mate safe. Before I know it the battle is over. People are hurt, I can sense it. I head home knowing the bad news. I walked in on Mack lying on the floor bleeding from her chest. I pushed everyone but Jake aside. He was on one side with me on the other. I knocked Jake's hand away from the wound, pulled the silver dagger out, burning myself in the process, and pressed my hands tightly on her wounded chest. I brought my essence forth and concentrated on the goddess. I was blinded by a white light. I fell back on the floor, the Sun blinding me. Than it seemed the Sun vanished. It was dark except a low dim of light.
"Hurry! There's not much time left. Take my hand lay your other hand on her chest. Close your eyes now. Feel her pulse and how it's slowing. Think about the silver that was in her heart, and that burned you, think about the wolf that hurt your friends and family. Think about your ancestors. And call out to me. You know what to do now. Help your friend." Artemis explained every step to me. I opened my eyes and I was back at Mack's side. I leaned down and pressed my lips to her forehead, a tear falling from my face and landing on her wound. I kissed Jake on the cheek and looked back down at Mack.
"Back up! This is going to get bright as hell!" I said backing away. I pulled Jake with me. He was struggling against me the whole time. I get him to the ground, covered his eyes and put my face in his chest. I felt his eyes clench under my hands. We were knocked into a tree. We weren't far enough.
"COVER YOUR EARS!" I yelled. Everyone clamped their hands on their ears. I heard a tortured growl. Then I heard Jake scream. It was a horrifying scream. It sounded like Mack's growl. I got up and ran to Mack in her wolf form. I pushed my hands throw her fur. I soothed her with words. Willow told Jake to get his ass over here. He looked at me expectantly. I nodded down and he instantly started cooing at Mack and running his hands threw her fur as I was doing. Finally Mack calmed down enough to form back.
"Is it always that painful changing?" She asked. Everybody laughed.
"No it's not painful. Only on the first change is when it's painful." I explained. She crushed me in a bear hug.
"Thank you for this Maddie." Mack said.
"You should think the goddess she lead my hand." I replied. And nodded.
"Okay I'm confused." Jake said. And everybody besides Mack and I agreed.
