Today is the day i will be reaped the 74th annual Hunger Games.
I have secrets , secrets far beyond anyone elses secrets in my district.
It all started when I was 14 , 2 years after my father died I was raped by two unidentified men.
I didn’t tell a soul , not even Gale knows to this very day.
A few months after the attack I found out I was pregnant , yes you read right.
My bump wasn’t very big so I could keep it all a secret.
I gave birth by myself in the woods ,it was excruciating.
I put my newborn baby in my bag and left her at the door of the bakery.
I watched as the 15 year old Peeta Mellark opened the door and saw my baby at his door, his jaw dropped and he then called his 17 year old brother Fen to the door , they took my babygirl in and looked after her and still do to this very day.
I wrote them a letter and I put it through their letterbox a week later.
Dear Mellark Family,
I’m the baby girl’s mom.
I am sorry that I burdened her to you but I couldn’t take care of her.
I wish to claim her next year.

When I turned 12 my father trusted me with one of his secrets.
He told me to learn how to wield all sorts of weapons and to study to games because our family has a curse.
The worst curse you could think of.
My great great Grandfather Tobias Everdeen and Gale’s great great grandfather Walden we're apart of the team in charge of the rebel soldiers and they sparked the rebellion.
Ever since the hunger games first started mine and Gale’s family members have been reaped for the hunger games.
That was how mine and Gales’s fathers died and my mom.
We are being reaped this year , we know it.
The reaping ages we’re originally supposed to be between the ages of 12-18 , but they were then changed because of my family to the ages of 14-35.
My mom was reaped 2 years ago the same year I gave birth , my father was reaped 4 years ago , Dad’s sister Ashlyn last year , Mom’s sister Lilac was reaped the year I was born , Gale’s father 3 years ago.
Our whole family has nearly been wiped out.
This year I will be the first Everdeen to win the games and break the punishment.
I wake my sister Primrose up.
She doesn’t know about the curse she’s too young to understand.
We wander into our kitchen and share an apple for breakfast.
“Katniss , promis me you won’t be reaped?” Prim says sadly.
“I won’t little duck” I lie.
I go and get dressed into my best clothes which are my mom’s clothes she wore to the reapping of her games.
“Prim , you must stay here ok” I tell her.
She nods sadly as I kiss the top of her head.
Gale knocks on the door and I wave goodbye to Prim.
I look at Prim staring at us out the window hopefully.
I will win for you Prim , I will win for you and my baby.
