School has been over for two weeks now. As surprising as this sounds, I actually miss it. The weird thing is that I miss the kids (as shocking as that sounds). What's really weird is that people didn't start talking to me until the few last weeks. I mean I still don't have any friends, but people did talk to me a little. So I guess that's a start. I'm going into the 9th grade and I'm nervous, but it's a new beginning. A new school which means new people.
My summers not that exciting. I normally outside. My foster family has a pool so I guess that's pretty cool, except I'm never allowed to use it. I've only got in it once, but that was to clean it. I'm either left alone or I'm being their slave. Remember that little girl I was telling you about? Well she has became closer to me. She never talks, unless she's with me. She's the reason I'm staying here, if it wasn't for her I would have ran away by now. Lived on the streets probably, until somebody finds me and takes me back to the orphanage. She's the best thing in my life, and I love her to death.
Tuesday was my birthday. I woke up to find her sitting on the edge of my sleeping bag.
"Good morning, how did you sleep?" I asked her. She doesn't respond. Instead she looks at me and the package in her hand. She looks eyes with me and places the package on my lap. "Is that for me?" She just looks and me and nods her head. She turns to see if anybody is near and whispers in my ear "Happy birthday Hollis, I hope you like it." I follow her gaze to the package and study it. It's in a light blue wrapping paper with a white bow tied to it. I tear into it to find its a book. A big one, filled with hundreds of stories.
"Oh, it's wonderful!" I exclaim. "Did you buy this for me?"
"Well I knew your birthday was coming up and I wanted to get you something special, so on my way home from school one day I saw it in the window of the book store. I just knew I had to buy it for you."
This is so sweet, thank you so much!"
"Do you like it?" She questions me.
"I love it, but not as much as I love you." She laughs and I pull her in for a hug. We sit like this for a few minutes when my door slams open.
"Hey! Wha... What is going on here?" Screams Mr. Jackson. "WELL... ARE YOU GOING TO ANSWER ME OR ARE YOU JUST GOING TO SIT THERE?" Me and Lilly Judy look at each other. This makes him furious. He walks over and pushes Lilly of my bed and raises his hand to hit me.
"Wait!" Yells Lilly. He puts down and his hand and just stares at her.
"Wow, look who finally found how to speak?" He teases her. "To bad I don't take orders from little brats like you, oh and watch that mouth or else."
"Or else what?" She replies.
"Oh so the little brag thinks she can be smart with me, we'll see about that." He shoves me and laughs, then he turns to her and says "wanna see what happens when we talk back?" Before she has time to answer he starts pounding into me. Lilly just watches in terror as he's beating the shit outta me.
Lilly starts to cry, but then she stands up. She looks at him and try's to push him, but she's too weak. That only makes him punch harder. I feel like I'm at the point of passing out, but then he stops. Looks at Lilly then back to me. Then slaps her across the face. "Don't ever talk to me like that again or you'll find out what a punishment is." He walks out of the room and them says to me "oh and you better get out of they bed and get to work, or else she can Participate in one of our little sessions, and I'm sure you don't want that."
When we hear his footsteps fade away Lilly runs over it me and holds me. She try's to make me better but she knows I'm badly beaten. She's saying something to me but I can't hear her. I try to say something but my body won't let me. That's when I pass out.
