"if pain can purify the heart, mine will be pure."

BY THE TIME YOU HAD proper control of your body, you were leaning against a tree with furrowed brows. Your body is aching all over and even though just moments ago you were sure to burn alive, you're now certain you would turn into an icicle.

A breeze flutters by making you tremble. Rubbing your arms, you wince, holding a strong urge to shrug a coat on and check yourself for burns. The only problem was...you did have a coat on.

Looking down, you find yourself in a nightgown with long puffed sleeves, and stockings that scarcely cover you. The same outfit you had seen in a dream.

Why is it the same?

"Where did my warm clothes go? My shoes!" You're reminded of the ghost girl, "she swapped them out for her nightgown...but why? So I could suffer?"

You're looking around the forest floor, teeth lightly chattering. After being burned alive and thrown around, you guess that might just be the case. Yet, the way she pulled you close, screaming, left you uncertain.

Well, she did save me from those demons... I think. I can't just forget that.

There by a stump sat your small backpack, knife, camera, and flashlight neatly propped up. Recalling your last position on the ground against a few sharp rocks, your mouth straightens.

"Gee, how kind."

While picking up your things, you notice a sheathed dagger. You didn't recognize it, but you keep it anyway assuming it was just another gift from the ghost.

Maybe I should be more weary of her gifts...

Snatching up your backpack, you place your camera inside for safekeeping and flick your light on.

It flickers.

Not you too!

This time, smacking it works for only a moment before it goes out. Sighing, you switch it out for your phone but when you look inside your backpack; it's empty.

You check every pocket, the forest floor, and double-check to no avail.

"..are you serious? Even my flashlight is gone! It was just here-" You groan and look inside once more. You glance once before gasping at a realization, "MY CAMERA! MY PRECIOUS EVIDENCE!" You're digging through and shaking your bag upside-down, holding back tears.

The one time you managed to capture ghosts and demons to boot. Gone.

Sniffling, you take a moment to mourn. Now no one back home would ever believe you! What was the point of burning alive and nearly dying then?!

Taking deep breaths, you calm yourself. Deciding now not to put your knives in, instead tucking them into your stockings.

My backpack's probably cursed now... I hope I can get my things back somehow...

For now, you remind yourself that there are bigger things to worry about. Like demons and finding civilization. You smack your cheeks.

Come on, focus.

Bringing a hand up in thought, you stare into the foggy forest.

Before that, I should take a look around and think about what to tell people. The church isn't here and these aren't my clothes. With this getup, I look like a runaway or something.
