❝Ashes To Ashes, Dust To Dust❞

AS SOON AS THE DOORS shut, Ciel gives Sebastian a knowing look. The tea is cold now and you were to be led to your temporary quarters by his butler. In the meantime, you were on standby down the hall, awaiting further orders. By now, it was evident to the two there was something amiss and the signs of your strength and claim of a demon were not overlooked.

"You are to keep an eye on her at all times." Turning back to the window he watches his blonde gardener make wine out of uninvited guests as he continues, "Should she show any sign of animosity or be in league with our enemies..." his eye narrows, the last smile you had given him flashing through his mind, "..discard of her."

There's a stillness to the room as he utters his last word.

When Finnian finishes his job and meets his master's gaze, blood is splattered on his cheeks, an emptiness in his eyes. Recognizing his young savior, life returns to his sight and he smiles with cheer, waving a red glove his way.

Ciel merely smirks, a haughtiness to his gaze when he walks back to his desk.

"For now..." Easing his way against his seat, he stares at the tea you barely touched. For your favorite tea, he found you drank very little of it. "Let the game begin."

"Yes..." Sebastian straightens from his bow, orange crackle lighting up his eerie grin, "my lord."

You're walking down winding halls uselessly attempting a feel for this mansion's maze-like layout when Sebastian speaks up.

"So your name is (Y/n). Any last name to speak of?" He's once again, leading the way.

Glancing at you from the corner of his eyes, you shake your head.

"I don't remember my last name, but I do know that (Y/n) is my first."

Sebastian doesn't let up his stare, but neither do you.

What could he do about it? You had amnesia, after all, so he couldn't possibly refute it.

"How awfully convenient.." he mutters, smiling when you meet his eyes.

You feel as though he either hadn't even tried to hide it, or you weren't supposed to hear his words, too quiet for human ears. Of course, you chalk it up to the former.

He continues, "As you have been appointed maid, you will be rooming with our other maid, Mey-rin."

You can't blame his doubt as it was pretty convenient. Just like this job. So while you couldn't blame him for his doubt, he couldn't blame you if you had your suspicions on how easy it was to score a job. The only reason they would let you in so easily is to monitor you and because they don't care who you are, as long as you can do your job and your loyalties lie with Phantomhive. Though your behavior up to now and mystery of a background left you without the usual trust they had in their other servants.

After all, they hadn't scouted you, you scouted them.

In the end, it was all a game of cat and mouse. Whoever caught the other squealing and skulking about first, wins.

Unfortunately for the two, you were an avid gamer yourself and quite good at that.

I'm not afraid of a little play. Ciel always loved a good game, so why not give him one?
