"And they said, I wish that I could be like the cool kids, like the cool kids..."

Elle. She was singing again, if you could call it that. She was my best friend and really brilliant and talented at many things, but she couldn't carry a tune to save her life. In fact, her off key crooning was going to kill both of us.

Beeeeep! A horn blared somewhere behind me and Elle stopped the torture just long enough to comment oh-so-helpfully: "The light's green, you can go, Casey."

"I know! I'm getting there!" I respond, my frustration evident. Carefully, trying not to grind my teeth as she continues to howl along to the Echosmith song I liked up until this car ride, I let off the break and lightly ease my foot on the gas. Soon we're "speeding" down the street at the grand speed of 20 mph.

"Okay, my grandmother drives faster than you." The song ends, and, not finding any other good songs to ruin for me on the radio, Elle decides to antagonize me in a different way. By insulting my driving.

"Your grandmother has been driving a lot longer than I have, Elle."

"You missed the turn."

"Dammit!" I take the next one and begin to double back. "Maybe if you weren't so distracting...?" I glance at Elle again. I mean for it to be more of a glare, but every time I take in her soft blond curls and petite features paired with sharp blue eyes that notice everything, I tend to melt. She's just so... cute. Adorable. I want to cuddle the hell out of her. And then kiss her so hard that we're both completely breathless.

"You missed the turn again," she says, keeping a serious expression but laughing at me with her eyes.

"Son of a bitch!" I flip a risky U-Turn and finally manage to guide us into a spot at the back of the school's parking lot. I shift the car into park feeling hot and flustered. Only Elle could ever have this effect on me. It really wasn't easy having a crush on your best friend.

"Oh look, we're on time. It's a miracle."

"Fuck you, Elle. If it weren't for me, you'd be stuck walking or taking the bus. Be grateful you have such a wonderful friend, who's willing to drive you everyday even with how horrible your singing is."

"Wow you really need to put money in the swear jar, honey. Secondly, I am tremendously grateful for you playing chauffeur, otherwise I'd never ride with a maniac like you. And thirdly, my singing is amazing. Anywho, just because we're on time doesn't mean we're early. I have to get to class." She leaned over and kissed me on the cheek. "Bye babe, see you at lunch. Love you."

With that, the irritating goddess left my car, leaving me with a whiff of jasmine, a tingling cheek, and a major need for a cold shower.

"I love you too, Elle. Too much," I muttered.

"Hey. Want to go up to my room? My parents won't be home for another hour at least."

"No, Jason. I've made a commitment to save myself until marriage. You need to respect that commitment and me."

"But come on baby, I need you," Jason said in a whiny voice.

"No Jason I'm sorry, but I made a vow of abstinence."

The video shut off. Mrs. Moyl rushed over to my table where I was currently choked up with laughter. Oh, finding air was hard with the cheesy scripted words of our Adult Roles' abstinence video running through my head.

"Are you alright, honey?" She inquired, leaning in real close and invading my personal space as she always liked to do with her creepy long fingernails clamped on my shoulders.
