Summary

Belladonna Winslow had never expected to have her name drawn at the reaping. She was a day away from seventeen. A day away from freedom. Her two older brothers had made it past the reapings, her family would have finally been free.

But her name had been drawn, written down on the small piece of paper that had changed her life.

For the first time ever Belladonna left district eleven, leaving her brothers behind, not knowing if she would ever set her eyes upon them again. She was prepared to die, she was not strong or clever. She had her instincts and that was it.

Yet when she arrived at the capitol to find a charming young man in red awaiting her arrival, a hope seemed to have shown itself in the darkness. He introduced himself as Coriolanus Snow, her mentor for the games.

He promised to keep her alive, and she found herself believing it.

Coriolanus Snow had wished for a better tribute. Though beautiful, Belladonna Winslow didn't look like a killer, certainly not someone who could win the Hunger Games. The problem was, Coriolanus needed to win those games, he needed that money.

Coriolanus knew his job, he knew that it would be difficult but when he found himself promising to keep Belladonna alive he almost knew that it would work out.

And if in the end the girl died, would it really matter to him apart from the loss of the prize money? He supposed it wouldn't have, but that was before he found himself falling in love with the girl named after a deadly flower.
