I Love To Hate You

chapter 7

"This is not bowling" I say as Kyle parks his car by the cliff. He smirks at me and climbs out of the car.

"This is freedom!" Luke screams as he takes his shirt off and runs to the edge of the cliff. I close my eyes as he jumps off.

"I am not doing that." I say sending all three of them a glare.

"Oh cmon Kayla. You know I wouldn't let you do anything that could harm you." Derrick says and I roll my eyes. Then why did he bring me here?? I can't swim.

Well I can swim in a pool if I can stand up in it but that's only because you don't actually have to swim. But deep lakes that you cliff dive off into? No I cannot swim in those.

"Derrick it's your turn to go." Kyle insisted giving him a slight glare.

Derrick jumped with Brendan following quickly.

"Why don't you want to?" He asked me turning to look me in the eyes. I was still leaned up against the car and he came closer till he had me pressed against it.

"I can't swim." I replied annoyed looking down to the ground. He pushed my chin up with two fingers.

"We'll jump together." He insist taking his shirt off.

"No."

I was not jumping off this cliff. I don't care if he held me the entire time we fell from the cliff or if he brought me to surface as soon as we could. I was not jumping off the cliff.

"Yes." He challenges me back.

"No"

"Yes"

"Yes"

"No"

"Ha I win you loose okay let's take me home now." I cheer happily pushing him away from me.

"You cheated!" He whined putting his shirt back on.

"Cheaters always win." I say sticking my tongue out at him.

Kyle just rolls my eyes at the comment and climbs in the car. Brendan drove up here too and he decided that they could just go home when they wanted to.

"You know they probably think we went off to fuck or something." Kyle says chucking as he turns onto the main road.

"I'm sure Luke knows me and my hatred for you better then that."

"You've only talked to him twice."

That's actually a good point. I've talked to Derrick way more times then I've talked to Luke but yet I feel as if Luke understands me better, he just has that 'I understand people' thing about him.

"So? We're still besties." I say turning up the radio as the song Bad Blood played.

"Far from besties." He joked but I could barely hear him because I was too busy bolting out the lyrics.

"Cmon sing with me Kyle." I ordered him, he just shook his head and turned the radio off. "So why did you stay at Brendan's house for so long?"

"Last time I checked we weren't friends so please keep your ass out of my personal life." Kyle ordered parking his car in my drive way.

This always happened we start to tolerate each other and then one of us always ruined it. Its like a vicious cycle, you start to like talking and being friends with each other and then you ignore each other for weeks.

"Okay Kayla. Don't freak out, please don't freak out but I have big news for you." Hannah says meeting me at Panera Bread.

It was Saturday and she texted me last night saying it was urgent that I meet her at Panera Bread at nine. So here I was at Panera Bread in a pair of joggers and a sweatshirt with my hair in a bun sipping coffee as she sits in front of me dressed up in leggings and a PINK sweatshirt with her makeup all done ready to tell me her fantastic news.

"Okay so I was just thinking how me and you haven't really hung out just the two of us lately," In other words Madi didn't agree to come with her. "So will you come with me to the animal shelter today because I volunteered and it's like this big thing where they take in a lot of dogs and clean them up and it'll be fun." Hannah was basically begging me like if we were standing up I'm pretty sure she'd be on her knees.

"Okay. Okay. I'll come but only for you, not the animals." I say to her and she smiles.

"This is going to be so much fun! Just imagine all the puppies and kittens." I hate animals. "oh and maybe I'll find one to adopt.. I think Trevor could use a friend. Plus Kayla this is volunteer work and it will look great on college applications." I just sigh at my friend.

"Kayla?" I hear my name over the constant barking and hissing of cats and look around to see Luke smirking at me as I try to wash a cat. Don't cats bathe theirselves?

"Luke!" Just the person I need. "I need a favor." I say giving him a sweet smile.

"I'm not washing that cat for you, I deal with dogs and dogs only." He says playing with his lip ring. Luke's actually quite the character as I get to know him he's really my favorite out of the "gang". He has this bad boy look and you only realize that he's sweet and compassionate if you get to know him which I think is really cool. He's very unique.

"I just need you to distract Hannah while I get the hell out of this place because I swear to god the next dog that barks at me I'll kill it." I fume. The last three dogs I washed or groomed, or whatever they call it, barked and growled at me the whole time and I was scared. This is why I don't like animals, they don't like me!

"Okay I'll distract her just don't hurt the animals." He says sighing.

"You really don't like talking to girls do you?" I ask laughing. It's like he's shy and it's so adorable. Luke is so my favorite person now.

"No because most of them just hit on me and make me feel awkward, no girls just want to have normal conversations." He says and I pat him on the back.

"That's what happens when your attractive, trust me i'd know." He laughs at me and I grab my bag and run out the door.

"I'm free at last!" I yell as I make it outside. No more nasty animal smell, only fresh air.

"You volunteer at the animal shelter?" Kyle says laughing at me.

"Actually no, but Hannah does and she wanted me to tag along. I agreed even though I highly dislike animals and then kinda threatened to hurt a animal if Luke didn't distract Hannah so I could leave." I explain and he just gives me this look.

"I'm sure he agreed right away. Don't mess with his dogs man." I laugh as the wind blows my hair in my face.

"Well do you want to get something to eat?" He ask walking towards his car. I follow behind.

"Obviously."
