"So you gave her your sweater, she hand washed it. She told you your facts were interesting, she's pretty, she's human, and you didn't ask her out?" Morgan questioned, raising an eyebrow with an amused smile on his face.
"I thought I was interpreting things wrong," Spencer sighed, covering his eyes with the heels of his hands, "For a second I thought she was giving me a look... or something? I didn't have the guts to test it."
Penelope scoffed from her spot behind Derek's chair, "I could just cry, Reid, you know that? You have the most rom-com experience of a lifetime and don't capitalize on it. Heartbreaking."
Derek nodded.
"Well, it's over now. I missed my chance, we're used to it," Spencer mumbled, turning back towards the stack of paperwork in his desk.
"I don't accept that," Penelope moved from behind Derek's chair over to Spencer's desk, covering his paperwork with her clipboard, "You literally have her number, you can call her!"
"She's right, pretty boy. I think the universe wants you to succeed here," Derek added, a smug look on his face.
Spencer furrowed his brows at Derek, unimpressed with his efforts to encourage Garcia's shenanigans, "I'm not doing that, feels like an invasion of privacy to text her. I only have her number because I gave mine to her. She never gave me her number. If she has no interest in me, texting her would be super creepy."
Garcia frowned, "But she doesn't have no interest. She gave you a look, remember?"
"Garcia, I thought maybe she gave me a look. When have I been particularly good at picking up on social cues. I'm not risking it," annoyance had begun to creep into Spencer's tone.
He wasn't actually upset with Garcia and Morgan. He was mostly upset with himself. Had he had the courage to ask her out in the moment handed to him on a silver platter, in the cafe when it was just the two of them, he could've avoided this teasing. However, Spencer knew himself and he knew that he would never have the guts to do something like that. Ask out a girl? He'd faced more than enough humiliation in high school, he had no desire to set himself up for failure like that in his present life.
Garcia heavily, and overly dramatically, "Party pooper."
Spencer frowned deeply and lowered his head even further towards his paperwork, his already poor posture worsening. He listened as Penelope's heels clicked away from his desk and Morgan proceeded to let out a soft chuckle.
"Yeah, laugh it up," Spencer whispered mostly to himself, scribbling away.
"Settle down kid, we're just teasing," Morgan smiled, patting the younger man on the back, "Pen just wants you to succeed."
Spencer turned his head and gave Morgan a look, "I'm sure it has nothing to do with her love of workplace gossip and romantic comedy movies."
Morgan's smile grew larger, amused by Spencer's sarcasm, "Not at all."
Before a smile could begin to form on Spencer's lips he saw Hotch step out of his office and look down on everyone in the bull pen, "Conference room in five."
Morgan immediately stood up, tossing the manilla file in his hand onto his desk with a spin motion, "Hey, odds are we're about to hop on a jet across the country for who knows how long, plenty enough time for you to meet some other beautiful, laundry knowledgeable woman."
Spencer shot Morgan a sarcastic but amused look, "Right, and I'll seduce her with my unwavering charm"
"Atta boy," Morgan laughed, slapping Spencer on the back as the two headed towards the conference room, earning an 'oof' from Spencer.
